🚨 Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna tells me any club wanting Mykhaylo Mudryk must spend "a lot, a lot, a lot of money." Shakhtar are saying publicly they want €100m. But, as previously reported, sources say privately they will entertain offers of €60m+.
That's double Everton's offer last summer. #EFC and Brentford were the two Premier League clubs most advanced and intent on signing Mudryk back then. Arsenal made enquiries but never bid. Now they are seriously focused on a formal offer.
Contrary to some reports, nothing has been tabled just yet. But conversations are ongoing and advancing. Mudryk wants Arsenal (as he told me) so it's now about whether a deal makes financial sense. Shakhtar are tough negotiators.
Mudryk has spoken to Oleksandr Zinchenko about the club and is a big fan of Arsenal's style. Mikel Arteta believes he can be turned into a more versatile winger, too.
Shakhtar are braced (and have always been) for a winter exit, but hope Mudryk's excellent #UCL form will get them the valuation they are looking for. Mudryk very humble and respectful of Shakhtar. "It's not only my decision. But if it's up to me, I can't say no [to Arsenal]."
On the failed Everton bid, Srna says: "When our president doesn't sell Mudryk for €30m in a difficult moment, he's sending a message to everyone: 'I want to be in the top level in the Champions League. I want to win the championship.'
"After Mbappe and Vini Jr, he's the best player in this position. So if someone wants to buy Mudryk, they must spend a lot, a lot, a lot of money."
Mudryk himself is flattered by the comparisons and praise. But tells me: "I am not the Ukrainian Neymar. I don't like that nickname. I am the Ukrainian Modric. He [Srna] sees how hard I work every day. I just want to keep improving and in winter we'll see..."
Told there is a very real possibility Dusan Vlahovic will leave Juventus in 2023. A January exit is not being ruled out by those close to him. Several top European clubs are in touch with his agent, including Chelsea, although nothing particularly advanced at this point.
Interested clubs are trying to understand first and foremost how 'urgently' or early Vlahovic is prepared to move and whether Juventus' off-field troubles, and new incoming board, has changed anything in their favour.
Vlahovic has six goals in 10 Serie A games. He's denied he's unhappy playing under Max Allegri. But Juve are open to cashing in knowing #UCL is by no means guaranteed next season and they may face sporting sanctions due to an ongoing investigation into alleged false accounting.
A22, promoters of the European Super League, will find out Thursday whether they are likely to have a legal mandate to move forward. They are challenging UEFA's monopoly of European club competitions under anti-competition law & believe victory will help gain buy-in with clubs.
Athanasios Rantos, one of the Advocate Generals for the CJEU, will make a non-binding recommendation which is likely to inform a final ruling in March 2023.
A22 are cautiously optimistic of a positive resolution. The crux of their argument is that UEFA shouldn't have a monopoly over club competition under the EU's free market.
Erik ten Hag confirms Manchester United are triggering the one-year extension to Marcus Rashford’s contract thus protecting the club from losing him on a free at the end of this season.
Ten Hag: “What we can do is show him this is the best club to be in… if we can tell him about the ambitions and how we want to fulfil them, these talks we will have with him. Then it is up to him to make the decision. It's 1.5 years [left] and he will be here [for all of it].”
PSG are still really interested in Rashford. Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports, “We’re not hiding it. We spoke before but the moment was not good for both sides.”
Gio Reyna was almost sent home from the World Cup, according to The Athletic. Greg Berhalter admits an “unnamed player” had to apologise to teammates for his behaviour in Qatar. “We were ready to book a plane ticket home, that's how extreme it was…
“We had a player that was clearly not meeting expectations on and off the field. We sat together for hours deliberating what we were going to do. [We decided] to have one more conversation with him, and part of the conversation was how we're going to behave from here out…
“There aren’t going to be anymore infractions. The other thing we said to him was you’re going to have to apologise to the group, but it's going to have to say why you're apologising. It's going to have to go deeper than just, 'Guys, I'm sorry.'”
Javier Tebas is presenting a KPMG report into the threat of a European Super League to LaLiga. KPMG estimate if Real Madrid and Barcelona join other LaLiga clubs will see a 55% decline in revenue. "The big clubs would benefit to the detriment of the rest."
KPMG calculate that domestic leagues account for 75% of revenue in European football (€25bn). And Tebas says a European Super League would have a "detrimental impact" on LaLiga, "draining" the league and its clubs of finances.
Tebas says the "elitist" ESL is proposing the same model they first presented in 2019 despite ESL organisers stating it will now be a meritocracy-based one. KPMG estimate an ESL would reduce the value of domestic leagues by over 45%.
🗣 Declan Rice: “I feel like I really want to keep pushing. I see my friends here, who are playing Champions League, winning the big trophies. You know you only get one career…”
As previously reported, Chelsea really want Rice (always been a priority) and believe a summer move may be possible for under £75 million. Multiple EPL clubs looking. Don’t rule out #LFC. #MUFC keen. No clear frontrunner yet because Rice expecting plenty of concrete interest.
Rice wants #UCL football and is happy to wait until the end of the season to see who has it. West Ham hoping for a bidding war. But the price he’ll go for will be significantly less than what they were quoting last summer.
