First up, single-sex grassroots sports. From women-only swimming sessions to clubs for teenage girls, providers are already scared to make separate provision on the basis of sex. Opening up GRCs to a larger, undefined group will make it impossible to address this. #NoToSelfID
The girls and women who most need single-sex sports opportunities - including from some religious groups, and those who've experienced male violence - will likely self-exclude from 'single-sex' opportunities if they can't be sure that they are female only. womeninsport.org/wp-content/upl…
The right to request a female forensic examiner was established thanks to @JohannLamont in the last Scottish Parliament. It relies on there being sufficient qualified female examiners, which @ScottishLabour pledged to address. Another pledge effectively junked if GRRBill passes.
Single-sex opportunities and provisions matter more to some women than others. Women from diverse minority communities already self-exclude from too many situations. @ScottishLabour's pledge to encourage participation would is another potential GRRBill casualty.
How does @ScottishLabour propose to address violence, bullying and discrimination on the basis of sex, when the GRRBill makes sex a matter of self-declaration? #NoToSelfID#NotYourShield
Women's wards in hospital - already at risk and in some places non-existent - will become a thing of the past. Increasing the size & diversity of the population eligible for a GRC means hospitals & health providers will have no choice but to separate by gender identity, not sex.
Are @AnasSarwar@jackiebmsp really prepared to put all these manifesto commitments in the bin, and sacrifice decades of work towards women's equality? We call on @ScottishLabour MPs to withdraw support from the GRRBill. #NoToSelfID
There are now no sensible compromises that can be made which would protect the rights of women and girls. None of the amendments on the table would make @ScottishLabour's manifesto commitments viable in the light of yesterday's judgement. parliament.scot/bills-and-laws…
Rights, provisions and boundaries based on sex are already under threat and disappearing. @ScottishLabour's manifesto pledged to address that. Making a much larger, undefined group eligible for a GRC would end any hope of reinstating those protections. @AnasSarwar over to you.

Failures of leadership in @ScottishLabour have seen a refusal to openly discuss women's rights and gender recognition reform. The result is incoherent policy and ineffective challenges to @ScotGov's flawed and hurried process. A thread. #NoToSelfID dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/…
In November 2021 @ScottishLabour's Women's Conference called for the party to "lead on finding a route forward that respects the rights of women and trans people through empathetic and respectful dialogue". @ScottishLabour should be well placed to do that. labouroutlook.org/2021/12/22/sco…
But prevarication and lack of resource/political will saw the promised consultation with women members delayed for nearly a year. When it happened it was poorly publicised and women members have yet to see the report which we understand was discussed by SEC last weekend.
Thread.
In the week of #GIDs closure & #AllisonBaileyWins.. @UKLabour doubles down on its refusal of our conference stand application.
With result that MPs Diana Johnson, Feryal Clark, Steve McCabe, Tonia Antoniazzi, Marsha De Cordova, Rosie Duffield & Mary Glindon go on record..
Following initial refusals @HayteratLords offered live on air on @BBCWomansHour to take a larger stand when told that smaller stands were taken.
But then on 27 July the party's Business Board ruled our application should be rejected "on commercial grounds"
We've read this statement and we're none the wiser as to why a @UKLabour council has cancelled a booking by women to discuss ending male violence with @bindelj, one of the world's most effective campaigners for women and eminently qualified to address that subject.
The cancellation "is due to the speaker’s views on trans gender rights being at odds with aspects of the council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy". Which aspects are they? We've read the strategy document (we think it's rather good).
As befits a @UKLabour council, @nottinghamcity's EDI strategy lists the protected characteristics (including sex) and sets out commendable priorities to address inequalities. Women meeting to discuss their rights is wholly compatible with that strategy. nottinghamcity.gov.uk/media/3374624/…
There's nothing to beat waking on a Saturday to the sound of women cutting their @UKLabour membership cards into tiny pieces. This is crass, stupid, sexist and plain wrong on every count from @Keir_Starmer. A misjudgement of colossal proportions. #WomenWontWheesht#SexMatters
We can't imagine how @Keir_Starmer thinks it's OK to say what he did. We think with his background he must know the law - but since he's always declined to meet us we can't say for sure. But we do know this appalling comment will cost the party dearly. thetimes.co.uk/article/75ddf3…
So, @Keir_Starmer, you think there should be a more "respectful" debate on "trans issues"? How about listening to women, then. You could have listened to our well-evidenced, carefully-argued views. We've been nothing but respectful. You've ignored us. labourwomensdeclaration.org.uk/open-letter-to…
new Single-Sex Providers Network set up by @FrontlineFemin1 are telling it like it is:
"The spokeswoman said all 14 member groups and their boards “have serious concerns about speaking publicly for fear of losing funding for their services”..

But here's what @MariaMillerUK claimed in @HouseofCommons!
"For more than 10 years under EA2010 orgs such as Women’s Aid & Refuge have been ensuring that those spaces are absolutely safe by using risk assessments on everybody who uses them, whether they are men or women...

First, thanks Nancy. Your appearance marks a step-change in Stonewall's no-debate position. The insistence on no-debate has produced a harmful, toxic climate. Let's hope it's consigned to the bin now.
When pressed, @Nancy_M_K admits humans can't change sex but also maintains that transwomen are literally women. The implication is that sex has been abandoned as the marker of the categories 'men' and 'women' and has no political relevance. How many people realise that?
There's an admission that people can hold GC views, but @Nancy_M_K says that the expression of such views as principles is harmful - GC views should only be expressed when framed as personal, irrational fears, and in the context of being vulnerable and needy.
