Mining production in South Africa fell by 10.4% year-on-year in October of 2022.

This was the ninth consecutive month of falling mining activity.

(Short thread)
1/ Contributors

The largest negative contributors were:

• PGMs (-32.5%)
• Gold (-6.3%)
• Diamonds (-22.5%)
• Manganese ore (-10.5%)

Source: @StatsSA

Why though?
2/ Reasons

- Load-shedding
- Global slowdown
- Extortion syndicates
- Crippling infrastructure

If we look ahead into 2023, the global economy is facing significant headwinds and an economic slowdown (recession)

This will add more pressure to the S.A mining industry.

I earn R800 000 a year

This is what it looks like

(Thread ) 👇🏽
1/ TAX

I fall in the 39% tax bracket.

R800 000 - R641 400
= R158 600
( 39% of R158 600)

R170 734 + R61 854 =
R232 588

I end up paying R232 588 in annual taxes =
( R19 382.33) a month
2/ Breakdown

My R800 000 annual salary is actually now R567 412

= R47 284 .33 a month ( $2 626 )

The 4 ways to make money

(Thread) 👇🏽
1/ Trade time

It’s very difficult to get rich giving up your time for money. Because you only have a certain amount of time - it’s finite.

The idea here is to make your time more valuable - having a skill, etc.
1.1/

The only problem with making time more valuable in this sense is
that your time is still finite - there is a cap in your earnings potential - no matter how skilled you are.

For example,
doctors earn more, but still trade their time - so there is a cap in earnings.

1/ Glossary

Appreciation:

Is an increase in the value of one currency in relation to another currency.

Depreciation:

Is when a currency falls in value in relation to another currency.

Let’s look at what I mean 👇🏽
2/ Currency Pairs

• Base currency is the 1st currency listed in the pair (USD)

• Quote currency is the 2nd currency listed in the pair (ZAR)

Deposit on the house is secured

I’m getting a joint bond for the purchase of an investment property.

Find out why 👇🏽
1/ Property in South Africa

The next monetary policy meeting in South Africa is scheduled for 22nd September

(Never work with the current rate, I always work with 1% higher, to account for extra costs)

Current rate:

Repo Rate: 5.5%
Prime: 9%

Trend👇🏽
2/ Reasons

As interest rates rise, equity valuations compress,

I’m shifting into the lower segment part of the property market and reducing risk by getting a joint bond

I’m Allocating more to ETFs, REITs, defensives, and I have been building dollar cash positions.
