Can mantras be chanted silently?

Generally speaking, mantras can and should be chanted silently, if and when you are able to keep the mind’s attention on the mantra.
#SanatanaDharma
#Spirituality Image
Mantras function mainly in the mind. The sounds of the mantra should the object of your attention - ideally the “inner sound” chanted internally.
#SanatanaDharma

When you vocalize the mantra and chant it out loud, the sound may help you to attune yourself to the pronunciation of the mantra and the vibration of its energy, and to calm your mind. The Vedas refer to this as Vaikhari Japa.

Heroic Red Tara, the first Tara of the 21 Taras, is “Tara who saves us from obstacles." In the Surya Gupta tradition, also known as Pravita Tara.

Her name in Sanskrit is Pravita Tara and Rabtupa We Drolma in Tibetan.

You can visualize her in front of you — you do not visualize yourself as Red Heroic Tara unless you have empowerment.

She is visualized as red — the nature of light — with one face and four sets of arms.

From “Tara in the palm of Your Hand” by Venerable Zasep Rinpoche, she is visualized in this way (we substitute “My” for “Her” since without empowerment you can only visualize her in front of you.)
