A growing number of #Indigenous and Black parents in the #UnitedStates reported that their children have experienced racism firsthand, according to a study published in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine. 1/7
Between 2016 and 2020, the study examined parental reporting of racist experiences that their children have faced. Led by Dr. Micah Hartwell at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Cherokee Nation, and…

Amy Hendrix-Dicken of the University of Oklahoma (Tulsa) School of Community Medicine, the study concluded that there indeed was an increase in reported racial incidents experienced by Black and Indigenous children from roughly 6.7% in 2016 to 9.3% by 2020.

According to reporting by AP, 17-year-old Pieper Lewis was charged with first-degree murder after she stabbed and killed her 37-year-old accused rapist, Zachary Brooks. Lewis was 15 years old at the time of the June 2020 killing. 1/3
Lewis was able to plea to involuntary manslaughter and willful injury last year, and despite the fact that those charges were each punishable by up to 10 years in prison, she won’t be serving any jail time so long as she doesn’t violate the terms of her probation.

Last week, she was sentenced to five years of closely supervised probation and ordered to pay $150,000 restitution to the family of her rapist.
Now, a GoFundMe account created to raise money for Lewis is skyrocketing. She has currently raised over $500,000.
Sixty-nine-year-old retired #KansasCity detective Roger Golubski appeared in court last week on six counts related to the rape of a woman from 1998 to 2001 and another woman from 1999 to 2002 while he was employed by the Kansas City Police Department. 1/4
Golubski pleaded not guilty and remained in custody, with another hearing set for this coming week.
Golubski's attorney, Morgan Roach, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment after last week's hearing.

Due to a $300 million budget cut to the City’s public schools, teachers, social workers, and other beloved school employees were told not to come back to work next year.
But the city is far from broke. And this is all about priorities. 1/4
In his budget, Adams found enough cash to increase spending on cops but not enough to help schools retain student support, arts, and music programs. Funding that supports students’ futures and educators’ livelihoods shouldn’t be cut — especially not now...

as our city emerges from the trauma of the pandemic.
The sweeping cuts to education – estimated to top #300 million across 1,000+ schools – demonstrate plainly the dangers of giving near total control over education to a mayor who does not value education.

OTD six years ago, our founder @Kaepernick7 made his first public remarks explaining his decision not to stand during the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner before football games. Kaepernick had already been protesting for three games before media reached out for comment. 1/4
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color," he said. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.

There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. This is not something that I am going to run by anybody," he said. "I am not looking for approval. I have to stand up for people that are oppressed...
