I was recently asked "how to the unhoused deal with the rain & what dangers do they face?"

Unhoused have to find shelter by any means. Business awnings, sleeping under semi-trailers, a tent inside a tent. ( tent in a tent can double also as insolation ) (1/2) #flooding, #LARain

if really desperate. asleep inside public restrooms, porta potties (2/2) #flooding, #LARain. This is more common than you might think because the resources are not there. 70k unhoused, 4k shelter beds. Do the math.

Dangers faced in the rain? So getting wet. hypothermia, pneumonia, -- Cold Intolerance thanks to : Fibromyalgia, Disorders of the hypothalamus, Blood vessel (vascular) problems, Hypothyroidism, Anorexia, Anemia. (1/5) #flooding, #LARain

if the person has Diabetes, it makes dealing with the cold & wet. Diabetes can cause kidney and circulation issues that make you feel cold. Without proper treatment, diabetes can also cause nerve damage that makes you feel cold, particularly in your feet. (2/5) #flooding, #LARain

So if property is wet and they're not near a 24hr laundry mat and don'rt have enough to do wash (because they have somebody there to kick you out if you dont weash) you can't dry. There is also limits on how much hot beverages one can consume (3/5) #flooding, #LARain

Thanks to the rain, it can be hard to hear if danger is coming. Meaning somebody might try to sneak up on you and such. So it can make it hard to sleep. (4/5) #flooding, #LARain

You're asking a unhoused to get a ticket, that will eventually turn in to a FTA, creating additional headache & unnecessary complications & displacement because business owner has their employee enforce the rules. #flooding, #LARain

Can't change out in the rain in to a dry set and even if you find a spot that has some sort of protection from the rain to change, you risk being further criminalized for living outside because indecent exposure (unintentionally) #flooding, #LARain

Nobody should be be forced to survive in this mess. If they have to live in it, they should be allowed to do it peacefully without criminalization, the same activities a housed neighbor does indoors, should be allowed for the unhoused outdoors. #flooding, #LARain
