America’s political right is the home of the chest-thumpingest brand of “patriotism” on the planet. But it’s also where you find the highest concentration of people telling you what this country can’t do. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they deem it incapable of managing to provide health care for everyone—something most developed countries now do in some fashion.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But in the face of ever-mounting gun deaths, they also believe we are the only country in the world incapable of regulating guns.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they shout that our government—of, by, and for the people—should never work on behalf of the people, and must stop trying.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they refuse to support innovation that can help us reduce damage to the environment and/or become less dependent on fossil fuels.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they refuse to look for ways to reduce the number of black and brown people killed by the police.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they strive to reduce both the revenue the nation collects and the investments it makes in its citizens.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they fight constantly to reduce the voice of the voting public, through direct voter suppression and through mitigating the impact individual voters can have.
“This is the greatest country in the world,” they say. But they seek to divide us on cultural and geographic bases rather than to work to unite us.
Today’s GOP politicians don’t want to serve a great nation; they want a mediocre nation to serve them. They want to keep our citizenry subjected while they line their pockets. It is our job as citizens to stop them.

Today should serve as a stark reminder that history isn’t about caricatured heroes. We should all celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.—but not through reduction into the simplest, most pleasant terms. (Thread) #ResistanceRoots
King believed in “militant non-violence.” But his movement wasn’t a Pollyanna exercise in passivity, or in everyone holding hands and playing nicely. It was a movement for change, for refusing to accept the status quo or wait for it to change.
And while the early focus was legal segregation in the south, he knew that racism wasn’t solved or eradicated with the Voting Rights Act or other legal progress. A fight against the hate and prejudice people hold in their hearts has always been harder.
Today’s GOP process: the right wing media outrage mavens throw out an accusation or attack. The politicians amplify it and say it’s what Americans care about. They then tweet nonsense and offer no solutions to the problem. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
It’s like a game of buzzword bingo. The winner gets to run over to the Fox studio and regurgitate the lines that Fox fed them in the first place. Instead of working to help Americans, they are dancing like marionettes on right wing strings.
Right-wing media companies do it because it makes them money to foment outrage and then collect ad revenue. The politicians do it because appearing on these outlets gets them more donations.
We can’t have a shared political discourse in this country without having a shared language with which to conduct it. I would love for every interview of a political figure to work toward this by digging in on buzzwords. (Thread) #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
Accusations of “communism”? How so? What are you saying is communist? Private companies making free-market decisions you don’t like? A government providing health care options to promote the “general welfare”? What exactly are you attacking?
You say LGBTQ people are “groomers”? What do you mean by that? What part of their existence constitutes “grooming” by your definition?
Tonight’s #FridayLimericks note Nick Fuentes, symptom of the GOP’s disease. #LimerickRhyme
There’s a wee little MAGAt named Nick,
Now a part of Republicans’ schtick.
He likes stirring the pot,
But he’s not worth a lot:
Just one more young professional prick.
Nick’s a blowhard, and not really smart—
So just how did this kid get his start?
He’s that Charlottesville fool
Who then dropped out of school
To become one more YouTubing shart.
Fuentes’ background’s not all that unique;
His self-hatred has little mystique.
Just a self-loathing guy
Lashing out on the fly
To lay claim to the whiteness he’d seek. axios.com/2022/03/10/ris…
Tonight’s #FridayLimericks are still looking for that red wave. #LimerickRhyme
Though republicans roared from the sea,
Seems their red wave just wasn’t to be.
As their bellowing thins,
Now the blame game begins—
And the former guy’s allies all flee. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
Junior promised a “bloodbath” was here—
So then why did that guy disappear?
The momentum all froze
While Don “powdered his nose,”
With no chance for his usual sneer. newsweek.com/donald-trump-j…
The historical trends would suggest
We’d be stanching the bleeding at best.
But with sanity purged,
Too much MAGA emerged—
And did worse than the pundits had guessed. fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-t…
I get reveling in all the far-right whining and infighting and turning in each other. I’ve enjoyed some popcorn over it too. But lest we get too excited, keep in mind that the main complaint they have is that he’s not an effective enough autocrat. #ResistanceUnited #LiveBlue2022
Their pushing an incompetent former president under the bus is fun, but most are aiming to replace him with someone they feel will be nearly as much a blow hard, but also a more effective bully. This embarrassment is far from the end of this version of the GOP.
Several of these lickspittle fools are already endorsing Trump for 2024. Others are just looking for a different bulldozer. And meanwhile, Peter Thiel, the Kochs, and other dark money ghouls are figuring out which anti-democratic corporate stooge should get their financial push.
