Time to bust another myth.
Invention of inoculation/vaccination is attributed by the colonials to Edward Jenner. This is a myth created by the colonizers.
Colonizers stole the technology from India.
Thread with proof and reference.

Before Islamic and Christian colonizers came in, India was self-sufficient with indigenous knowledge to fight diseases.
British resident at Bengal, T J Holwell saw how Brahmins (his word should have been Vaidyas) inoculated against the smallpox.

After returning to England, Holwell published paper to College of Physicians at London.
East Indies he refers to in the account is India.

See the date of publication. That date underlined is in Roman Numerals corresponds to year 1767!

Jenner published his paper on variolation in 1801.

See how Holwell describes the inoculation corps going from village to village.
See how they inoculate on arms. See how they make sure to rub the arm to remove debris to prevent secondary infections.

See how Holwell writes about Indian inoculation with less than one in million adverse events (his word underlined)
See how Holwell did not believe Indian Medical System at first and then got convinced afterwards.

See how miscarriage is separately tracked. The Indian doctors (he incorrectly calls them as Bramins , but we know they are Vaidya)

That probably is another myth that Leeuwenhoek discovered Germ theory. More on that later.
He also mentions about fermentation... Pasteur too will be investigated now.

After Jenner made a small tweak to the variolation using cows (sacred to Hindus) he went about claiming credit for something that was stolen from India.
British government banned all the Indian Vaidyas from inoculation in 1840.

Colonialism had its last laugh when indigenous medical establishment was decimated. Church's doctrine of Dum Diversas harmed millions in India and elsewhere. Please understand and thank India when you take your next vaccine!
