Very thankful to have gotten my booster #COVID19 vaccine!!🙏🏻☺️💪🏻 #gratitude 🧵
I know there is debate over boosters because of global vaccine inequity. Additionally, many Canadians who may benefit from a booster (people with medical conditions/disabilities) do not yet have access, & many people around the world cannot even access a 1st dose.
However, in *some* countries/areas with low vaccination rates & high cases, there is ample supply but still vaccine hesitancy.

Even locally, we are now worried again about rising ICU usage for severe COVID-19 infections mostly in unvaccinated people.

This was 2 months after high school graduation. My classmate was missing for 7 months. The devastation & grief were immense after the unexpected loss. We were naïve teenagers facing overwhelming sadness. Eventually her death was ruled a #suicide. #ph260720
In 2016, while living with my best friend, I briefly had a #suicidal roommate. The aftermath of my classmate’s death inspired me to study suicide, but I was not prepared to be the caretaker to a loved one in her time of crisis. #ph260720
About me: I choose #suicidology because I have seen the effects of suicide on families & communities. I am a sociological suicidologist turned #publichealth researcher. Learning from #livedexperiences and using #qualitativemethods in #suicideresearch is important to me. #ph260720

Twenty years ago, the world changed forever. The company I worked for lost more than 300 employees as a plane hit the floor we occupied in the World Trade Center.
For months, as employees, we volunteered helping family members locate loved ones, feeding the Red Cross workers, arranging funerals, and tripling up in cubicles so everyone had space to work. For some of us, it feels like yesterday.
For others, a faint memory. Let’s never forget those who lost loved ones, those who’ve fought for freedom, and the indelible compassion that emerged in humanity. This last 18 months has required more of the same, and the season ahead will no doubt still need it.

I must tell you this one @narendramodi Ji,

My Domestic Help this time flew back to Mumbai from his village in Madhubani in Bihar.

His logic, "saab 2 din time train me barbaad hota, flight ki ticket ka daam train ticket + 2 din ke salary jitna hi hai."

Vikas poore samaj ka!🙏
India is raising velocity of action in the life of those at the bottom of the wealth pyramid too now and across the board, @narendramodi Ji. Jahan Vaqt ki raftaar badal jaaye, growth will be mind-boggling. The purchasing power that is getting created will propel us unimaginably!
This tweet going #viral proves to me:

a. The utmost #virility in human perception, of all ideas is the idea of progress!

b. We humans at our core feel #gratitude #happiness in seeing any other human being progress & make his life convenient.

Wisdom

I was sitting bedside with a Grady elder one day. My arm elbow was propped on the bedside rail as I asked if she had any questions.

Her: “No, I’on’t think so.”
Me: *slow nod*

She raised an eyebrow.

Her: “Do YOU have you questions?”
Me: “Me?”
2/
She leaned back in the bed and chuckled.

Her: “Well. You got somebody in front of you that’s made 82. That’s 12 more than the good Lord promised, see.”

I nodded in deference and reflected on the biblical reference:

“The days of our years are threescore years and ten. . .”
3/
I squinted one eye and thought about her question.

Me: “I do have a question.”
Her: *eyes widened*
Me: “What advice would you give to your 50-year-old self?”
Her: “My 50-year-old self?”

She clapped her hands and rocked back and forth.

Her: “Whooo weeee!”

A #HCWforVaccines thread about the power of #gratitude & action. So, 2 days ago, my #HCWvsHunger co-captain & muse tweeted this out of the blue, tagging me. 👇 1/X
And I immediately texted her that she needed to give me a heads up because:

1) I can’t say no to this
2) I can’t say no to @acweyand
3) Last time we did this (#HCWvsHunger, Team #FeedalizumabGiveocin), I didn’t shower or even sleep almost at all for 4d.

But also… 2/X
This was coming at a really bad time because in the last week:

1) My out of warranty iMac on which I depend had just permanently died.
2) My car on which I depend had just permanently died (& p.s. it’s impossible to find a 🚗 now: bit.ly/3DlS5oD).

How it started vs How it’s going.

This day 6 years ago, I came to Canada on a 2-year study permit

With $650 in my pocket, I had many questions in my head & high aspirations

I later became a permanent resident before the 2-year visa expired

…the rest like they say is history! ImageImage
I can’t believe I’ve spent up to 6 years in this country.

I also can’t believe I’ve spent just 6 years in this country...If you know what I mean

Everything looks so long, yet so short, but today is not for stories, it is for giving thanks

It’s been an amazing ride!

#Gratitude
No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid!

And that’s what this country has done for many of us who came with 2 checked in bags and one carry on

Thank you Canada for the countless opportunities

We will continue to play our part to make the country better for everyone!

When Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola in a telephone interview, was asked by the radio presenter, "Sir what can you remember made you a happiest man in life?"
Femi said:
"I have gone through four stages of happiness in life and finally I understood the meaning of true happiness.

“The first stage was to accumulate wealth and means. But at this stage I did not get the happiness I wanted.
“Then came the second stage of collecting valuables and items. But I realised that the effect of this thing is also temporary and the lustre of valuable things does not last long.

In September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a History teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock, USA, did something not to be forgotten.
On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks in her classroom.
When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks. 'Ms. Cothren, where are our desks?'

She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.'

Today @twitter is opening our offices in SF and NYC. Our hearts go out to any tweeps around the world still unable to come back to an office, but this is a long awaited day for many.
It’s going to be different, both near term with COVID-protocols, and long term. We aren’t asking everyone to return. Ever. We will attract and retain the best people, enabling the most creative and productive work of their careers, whether on their sofa or in an office.
We will create new norms. Some of us are nervous extroverts or live in tight quarters without good focus space. Others will feel unshackled from meetings, urban areas, face time, or a century’s office norms, free to avoid a commute, small talk, or even traditional hours.

A Pattern for Prayer || Effective Prayer || James 5:15 || Morning Devotional || July 3, 2021
Happy Saturday, my beloved family! In today’s devotional, we are encouraged to pray in faith for anyone who is sick among us. The word of God says that this specific prayer will bring healing to the sick & they will rise to new life. How amazing is that?? 🤯
We are also assured that if the sick person had committed any sins, that they would indeed be forgiven. As you enter your weekend, keep praying & keep trusting in God’s relentless love for us! 🙏🏾❤️

Many a times we don't appreciate small acts/gestures because we overvalue our work.
But in reality in a team set up, small acts are the big ones like the intern and final year student in my ward who helped feed many patients on night duty. 1/n
psychidiaries.wordpress.com/2021/04/23/fac…
What is it that stops us from appreciating small acts of kindness/empathy? If Lord Rama could be so pleased with a squirrel's contribution, then why should we be so fastidious? 2/n
My suggestion in public interest is to practice the art of gratitude. And no better time to do this than in the middle of a pandemic.
Be thankful to people rather than demeaning them. Bahut sare Kabir Singh dekhe hai jo iss hi arrogance se kabhi Upar nahi uth paaye! 3/n

We started ⬇️

2) This brought lots of #longcovidkids families to our door, so we set up a place to connect & now support over 2000 families all facing the same challenges. Since December we have been welcoming about 100 families, often with multiple #longcovid kids.

3) We realised #longcovidkids was different to #longcovid so we set up the #LongCovidKidsStudy with @PeopleWithApp to learn more & support researchers & Drs.

On a positive note. I did not pass out or almost pass out this month. 👍Last two months my mom was newly in the ICU then she had newly passed away and I could not get out of bed without syncope or near syncope. And I had just had my 2nd vaccine so was already not well.
There are all these wise people who say things about suffering but it’s honestly true..

..that the more suffering you experience the more gratitude you can have..

..because when something is not as bad as it used to be do you feel immense relief, #gratitude

👋 everyone! Today we shared some of the awesome work from Twitter’s Ads Product team over the last year or so, and I’m excited to share a lil 🧵 of it with you now! First, read this 👇 adweek.com/programmatic/l…
There are millions of businesses, professionals, non-profits, publishers and creators on Twitter. As @iamjameelg says, we need to make it easy for them to onboard, and we also need to make sure they can promote their Tweets in a quick and frictionless way 🏪
That’s why we rebuilt Quick Promote, our most popular self-serve ad tool. This is live in the US and will be available globally later this year 🌍

My Lockdown takeaways from Week 2 - 1. Staff Wellbeing - Being apart, doesn't mean we can't support each other or be together. At lunch times set up a zoom for those you may normally catch up with, share your experiences. Try to make your day as normal as possible. #teacher5aday
2. Journey time - if you usually have a 30 minute commute to work #getoutside and take a walk before your day starts. The fresh air, sounds of the birds and watching the sun rise can really set you up for a great day. Same at the end, walk, reset and unwind. Take time for you.
3. Be organised - we can all feel busy, but to be efficient be organised. @SFL2326 shared a great article today which l will summarise...a pianist will only play beautiful music if the notes are played in the correct order...make a list, set realistic goals for the day #wellbeing
