5 things you should never take for granted 👇

[A Thread]
1. Sacrifices

Never take the sacrifices made by your parents, friends, and well-wishers for granted.

Acknowledge them and recognize that they have played a significant role in shaping the person you are today.
2. Virtues

Never take the virtues that you have developed over the years for granted. Your virtues are the foundation of your character.

I work at a 220-person org that's listed as 'Best org for Remote Workers 2022' by Quartz and rated 4.6 on Glassdoor. For every 3 likes on this tweet, I'll post one tip, policy, take, example of what Springworks does to be an employee-centric organisation 🙌🏽
1/ Whenever I speak to founders/HR/People Ops from orgs that are looking to set policies, I see them focus on 'what if the policy is misused'. At Springworks, we don't focus on bottom 5% behaviour. We lead with trust - policies are made with the best employees in mind
2/ Most orgs overthink when they need to thank people ('do we thank them for doing things that are part of their day-to-day job?'). At Springworks, we have built a culture of appreciation for each other (peers, reportees and managers) that's not based on "outcome/impact-only"

Exactly 3 years ago, at this very time in my life, came a moment, that changed many things for me & my family.

With blessings of the supreme force of Baba Kedar and Maa Bhagwati; and prayers & support of my loved ones, v managed to overcome it…scars remain

Gratitude to all 🙏🏻
Lot of things changed & so did my outlook towards life & material things. Money never guided my actions & more so after that one incident.

It actually reinforced my faith in the power of relationships- lack of money can always be made up by relationships but not vice versa.
As soon as I got the news of the accident, I rushed to hospital with my mom. The entire journey from my home to hospital was a horrible experience; once at hospital I just ran towards emergency…found my daughter on her emergency bed-on ventilator, with swollen head & broken legs

This made my day!! From my friend @dkvmhw (I stands for Dev as it is his narration)
" At Malwa Market Mhow last afternoon. He collected empty plastic bottles from the rubbish bin of a popular snacks shop and put them in a sack.
"You collect these plastic bottles?" I asked.
"Have to do it," he replied in a matter of fact manner.
I (my friend Dev that is) bought a packet of Marie biscuits for two well behaved strays, both sterilised, who were sitting not far from me.
But before I could feed them he started feeding them some biscuits he had just bought.
Apparently they were waiting for him. "So you feed these dogs," I said handing over my packet to him.
"Why shouldn't I?" he asked, "Don't they feel hungry too?"

Day 3 of #Omicron symptoms was my worst so far, with fatigue & a very heavy head, alongside sneezing. My tight chest, feeling of reduced lung capacity and tickly lung sensation had subsided slightly, as did the coughing, that had become painful on Day 2 #Oximeter down to 96%...
...so I slept a lot on Day 3.

But now it's 1am on Day 4 and I feel full of life. Fatigue gone. No more headache. Slight wheeze still, Oximeter 96%; no appetite, but sense of smell and taste are fine.

Wonder whether the worst is over, as I'm double AZ-jabbed plus Pfizer-boosted?
I can't find evidence of people relapsing into worsening symptoms post-Day 3, but my lungs are my weakness... Am I good right now because I slept so much over the last 3 days?

Tomorrow I begin my participation in the @UniofOxford #Molnupiravir (antiviral) trial.

2021 has been one crazy year for me.

Recently took a break from twitter as I needed to think & reflect in solitude.

My biggest learnings / relearnings of 2021 - A thread as random as my thoughts. :))

#Life is fragile.

We never know when it shall be our last breath. Covid just reinforced this.

Do good. Be good. Expect nothing.
Make mistakes but have no regrets.
Forgive . Make peace often .
Live life each day to the best of your abilities.

That's all that can be done!

#InvestResponsibly

Always ensure you have a nominee to all your investments. Don't take on unnecessary loans.

Make a WILL !

Inform your spouse / family.
Document everything correctly &
responsibly.

Else, this becomes an added pain later on for the bereaved family !

Whew this hits home- @JoShapiro3 talks about how we are "asked to metaphorically debrief on a toxic system" on an individual level.
This is why #organizationalcompassion in #healthcare is necessary!
Ooh there it is! "The best results are organizationally driven...there are factors that are organizational driven that are harming our wellbeing. Often organizations don't know what those factors are."
I really appreciate @JoShapiro3 invoking #shame in medical errors & touching on how systems issues can set us up for medical errors.
We all know the impact of #safety interventions at the system level. The same goes for caring for clinicians.

Very thankful to have gotten my booster #COVID19 vaccine!!🙏🏻☺️💪🏻 #gratitude 🧵
I know there is debate over boosters because of global vaccine inequity. Additionally, many Canadians who may benefit from a booster (people with medical conditions/disabilities) do not yet have access, & many people around the world cannot even access a 1st dose.
However, in *some* countries/areas with low vaccination rates & high cases, there is ample supply but still vaccine hesitancy.

Even locally, we are now worried again about rising ICU usage for severe COVID-19 infections mostly in unvaccinated people.

This was 2 months after high school graduation. My classmate was missing for 7 months. The devastation & grief were immense after the unexpected loss. We were naïve teenagers facing overwhelming sadness. Eventually her death was ruled a #suicide. #ph260720
In 2016, while living with my best friend, I briefly had a #suicidal roommate. The aftermath of my classmate’s death inspired me to study suicide, but I was not prepared to be the caretaker to a loved one in her time of crisis. #ph260720
About me: I choose #suicidology because I have seen the effects of suicide on families & communities. I am a sociological suicidologist turned #publichealth researcher. Learning from #livedexperiences and using #qualitativemethods in #suicideresearch is important to me. #ph260720

Do you spend your life pursuing perfection?

We grow up going to school striving for high scores. Then we search for the perfect job, partner, wedding, family, & home.💯🏃🏻‍♀️💨

However, in this pursuit, we may miss small moments that make life meaningful.

How can we focus on the small things happening at THIS moment, that bring us joy & meaning? How we can be mindful & grateful for the little things?🤔💭☺️

Can we take a step back & learn to recognize all the small joys that occur in our daily lives?

Twenty years ago, the world changed forever. The company I worked for lost more than 300 employees as a plane hit the floor we occupied in the World Trade Center.
For months, as employees, we volunteered helping family members locate loved ones, feeding the Red Cross workers, arranging funerals, and tripling up in cubicles so everyone had space to work. For some of us, it feels like yesterday.
For others, a faint memory. Let’s never forget those who lost loved ones, those who’ve fought for freedom, and the indelible compassion that emerged in humanity. This last 18 months has required more of the same, and the season ahead will no doubt still need it.

Wisdom

I was sitting bedside with a Grady elder one day. My arm elbow was propped on the bedside rail as I asked if she had any questions.

Her: “No, I’on’t think so.”
Me: *slow nod*

She raised an eyebrow.

Her: “Do YOU have you questions?”
Me: “Me?”
2/
She leaned back in the bed and chuckled.

Her: “Well. You got somebody in front of you that’s made 82. That’s 12 more than the good Lord promised, see.”

I nodded in deference and reflected on the biblical reference:

“The days of our years are threescore years and ten. . .”
3/
I squinted one eye and thought about her question.

Me: “I do have a question.”
Her: *eyes widened*
Me: “What advice would you give to your 50-year-old self?”
Her: “My 50-year-old self?”

She clapped her hands and rocked back and forth.

Her: “Whooo weeee!”
