Industries are consolidating because, for the past 40 years, policymakers, judges, and law enforcers have not only allowed big mergers, they have encouraged them, deeming them beneficial for customers and the economy. AKA Reaganomics

This turns out to be catastrophically wrong.

By every measure, in small towns and big cities, mergers have killed jobs, suppressed wages, smothered independent businesses, and left residents despondent and cynical, as our stark political and economic divide grows ever wider.

***In Trumps last nine months, the number of corporate mergers sent to the feds for review reached a staggering 40 percent over 2019. In August alone, companies announced 369 major mergers, about 12 per day.

President Biden has implemented the most ambitious anti-monoploly program in a half-century or more.

He has appointed dedicated trust-busters like Lina Khan and Jonathan Kanter to lead the long-moribund antitrust agencies, and in July he issued a sweeping executive order to promote competition and fairness for small businesses and workers.

For the first time in many decades, the government and its law enforcement agencies have a clear understanding that, to combat corporate concentration and the harms it causes, you must stop companies from buying their way to dominance by taking over their rivals or suppliers.

But all of this hard work will matter little without addressing another barrier:

The right wing disinformation coming from their big business funded think tanks…and Right Wing appointed judges who are convinced that most corporate mergers do more good than harm, are creating thickets of pro-merger court decisions that are undermining economic reform.

Congress needs to pass new laws that undo these bad policies and precedents.

1-Claim cheating (again) before the ballots have been cast..sow doubt and discord among the ignorant
2-Threaten and intimidate voters with aggressive and illegal poll watching schemes
3-Overwhelm Secretary of State offices with purges of the voter rolls
4-Claim both candidates are unpopular -create a dystopian view of powerlessness and that your vote wont matter
5-Push 3rd party candidates who are only designed to siphon off Democrat votes..

In the past four decades, the large majority of Bills enacted by congress, a full 85 % have included tax cuts for the richest people and corporations —

Billions of dollars that would otherwise have gone to the federal till for spending, that could help the rest of the public get ahead and finance every Social Program in the country

Yet, The whole purpose of the Income Tax is and always will be…

The federal tax system has been transformed into something akin to a private-equity slush fund for wealthy taxpayers, giving them remarkable returns from multiple sources.

And as each Republican Congress showers them with more benefits, most Americans struggled to keep up with the cost of living

Every year corporations spend more than 85% of the total reported expenses associated with lobbying Congress.
By contrast, labor unions, which represent interests of working people, account for less than 2%

Before the income tax was enacted in 1913, average Americans paid the bulk of federal taxes through levies on imported goods and Until World War II, the income tax was levied on only the richest Americans.
Even after that, the system was designed so people with more money paid higher rates — much higher for the wealthiest.

Fast forward to Reaganomics...and Republicans have tucked large breaks for the rich into proposals with small cuts for millions of other Americans, effectively disguising the main beneficiaries… the billionaire class.

All while promoting tax cuts with claims about economic benefits that have never panned out.

The federal government is spending money it doesn’t have, papering over a now more than $1.5 trillion annual deficit by printing more of it

However, the federal government is not printing more money — quite the opposite.

The US money supply is declining. Something it has not done in at least 65 years.

There is no evidence that budget deficits cause inflation. The numbers do not point to it.

The US ran large deficits in 2008, and prices fell. Barack Obama, was the most successful budget hawk since Bill Clinton.
Yet the low inflation rate he presided over continued through his debt-addicted (Trump) successor’s reign of deficit explosion.

Nobody likes red tape, forms, and all the other penny-ante bureaucratic bullsh!te.
However, in terms of employment numbers, the federal government is leaner now than in 1948.

During the Truman administration, federal workers (1.6 million) represented 2.8% of all workers (58.1 million). In 2023, federal workers (3.0 million) represented 1.9% of all workers (161.0 million).
