/ Interoperability describes the exchange of assets and data between blockchains. There are a number of strategies and solutions in this burgeoning market, which we break down here: medium.com/@zetablockchai…
/ Now, as you descend deeper down the rabbit hole of interoperability, you’re likely going to run into a few buzz terms. Let’s get you prepped 👇
/ Multichain: describes many chains regardless of whether communication or transactions occur among them. Have you heard of the “Multichain Thesis”?
/ It posits that there’s a role for multiple chains in society vs. the maximalist position, which espouses one single chain is all we need. What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
/ Cross-chain: describes the passing of value, messages, and data across blockchains. How? Side-chains, relays, notary schemes, hash time-lock contracts, blockchain of blockchains — we break down all of these technical mechanisms here: blog.zetachain.com/blockchain-int…
/ For example, one very popular cross-chain strategy is called bridging, but the approach makes users susceptible to significant exploits:
/ Omnichain: “Omni” means of all things so, in this context, omnichain describes something that spans multiple and/or all chains and functions across those chains seamlessly.
/ Accordingly, an “omnichain dApp” or “odApp” has access to and can manage assets and data on any or all connected networks from a single place of logic (i.e. on ZetaChain’s “omnichain” smart contract platform).
/ Curious to learn more about the development of Omnichain dApps in the context of blockchain history? Check out this piece: blog.zetachain.com/omnichain-dapp…
/ One last important distinction in your Zeta Education journey is the difference between Omnichain dApps & Cross-Chain Messaging.
/ At a high-level, an omnichain dApp (smart contract) provides a more synchronous way of building, as if everything were on one chain vs. the more asynchronous cross-chain messaging architecture, which relies on data exchange between existing smart contracts on blockchains.
/ The key benefit of Omnichain Smart Contracts is one 1 contract for all chains, less fees, and a better, safer UX — check out this brief thread to learn how this is possible:
/ On the other hand, cross-chain messaging involves more contract logic, complexity of waiting for different messages to sync between separate chains, and you can’t support non-smart chains like @Bitcoin.
/ ZetaChain blockchain actually combines both Omnichain Smart Contracts and Cross-Chain Messaging to achieve a new standard for generic cross-chain programmability. We’ll refer you back to this post to learn more about ZetaChain’s omnichain toolkit: medium.com/@zetablockchai…
/ Otherwise, let’s leave it there for this #ZetaEd. Let us know what you want to learn next 🤓

⚔️ Today we're excited to announce ZetaChain’s Guild to the @guildxyz community & broader crypto ecosystem. Join now to show early support for ZetaChain and its mainnet launch coming soon 👇 guild.xyz/zetachain
ZetaChain is the 1st public L1 blockchain with built-in omnichain interoperability. It connects everything.
ZetaChain facilities cross-chain and layer value transfer, message delivery, and smart contract calls, enabling for the 1st time, omnichain dApps that span and can access native value on all chains - even non-smart chains like Bitcoin.
