I spoke with Timothy Adkins, the interim director of the Certificate of Need program. He clarified the CON program for me, as it pertains to #obgyntwitter in West Virginia. 2/
If an ambulatory care center aka hospital or hospital affiliated clinic exists in your community, that entity DOES NOT need to apply for a CON to add #obgyntwitter care to it's existing facility. 3/
If an #obgyntwitter wants to open up a PRIVATE PRACTICE where the physician and/or certified #Nurse #midwife is not employed by the local hospital, but just has credentials to perform delivery at the hospital also DOES NOT need to apply for CON. 4/
Mr. Adkins also informed me that when CONs are filed for #rural communities in West Virginia, they are RARELY if ever denied. 5/
The failure of our #hospital systems to provide basic #healthcare like #obgyn services for #maternity care and #preventativemedicine is 100% based on putting profits before people. 6/
The failure of our state to attract #obgyn service providers to our state is based off the archaic laws in place, and new ones being introduced that dissuade providers from building practices and services in our state. 7/
