However, as @POTUS Biden noted, the upgraded #ACA subsidies of the Am. Rescue Plan & Inflation Reduction Act are currently set to sunset at the end of 2025. It's time to make them permanent. #SOTU
There's also ~2.2 million Americans caught in the #MedicaidGap because they live in states which are *still* refusing to expand Medicaid via the #ACA a decade later.
#SOTU Of course, there's no way a GOP-held Congress is gonna agree to make the upgraded #ACA subsidies permanent or eliminate the #MedicaidGap, so it's vital that Democrats retake the House in 2024... secure.actblue.com/donate/housebl…

A week ago, a tweet from a supposedly left-leaning Ph.D went semi-viral which claimed that a) 800 Republican voters are currently dying of COVID per day & b) this is 5x the rate of Democratic voters. While the partisan COVID death gap is large, both of these claims are nonsense.
I wrote a couple of threads about this over the weekend, but I've also delved deeper into the issue to look at both a) what the actual data indicates and b) where this *very* specific claim originated.

📣 Again, I'll be addressing the "Voter COVID deaths 5x higher among GOP than Dems" meme which spread over the weekend later, but for the moment, here's the latest *county level* Red/Blue & Vaxx Level COVID death rate breakout, *including* BIVALENT doses:

Primary Dose Vaxxes: Since 5/01/21, the COVID death rate has run 2.87x higher in the least-vaccinated decile of the U.S. than the most-vaccinated decile.

This is actually a slightly *higher* ratio than a month ago.
Partisan Gap since the primary vaxxes: Since 5/01/21, the COVID death rate has run 2.77x higher in the reddest decile of the U.S. than the bluest decile. This is down slightly from a month ago.

Related to my Spielberg question earlier, I decided to break out all of his films by budget & global box office performance, adjusted for inflation.

This paints a dire picture of where the theatrical movie theater industry is in the COVID era. Image
Yes, MCU + a few smash hits here & there (Maverick, Avatar 2) are keeping things afloat, but Steven Fucking Spielberg has had 2 box office bombs in a row (even though both are highly praised & won/are winning a bunch of awards).
Even without adjusting for inflation, The Fabelmans--by all accounts a fantastic film--is the 2nd lowest-grossing film of his entire career, just barely ahead of his first theatrical release from nearly 50 years ago. Adjusted for inflation & it's dead last. Amazing.
