good morning☀️happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders are guardian aus politics editor Katharine Murphy, ABC politics editor Andrew Probyn, and 9fax (AFR) politics corro Phil Coorey. The interview is with federal Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers.
opening spiel: orthodox and wrong economic statements about inflation and unemployment. The political fallout of an “independent” RBA. #Insiders
we then conflate the resignation of adulterous enforcer of unlawful persecution of poor people from the lower house with Senator Lidia Thorpe announcing her move to the Senate cross bench. #Insiders
the montage is a hodge podge of inflation and interest rates. As Murphy did in her weekend column, and corporate media have for years, the ABC repeatedly amplifies Liberal Party sloganeering. This is why we can’t have decent policy. #Insiders.
#MakingNews energy prices. The Aston by-election. Liberals want a female pre-selected. Shadow ministry shuffle. Speers editorialises that smaller power price increases are “good. For the government.” Ffs. Almost all parliamentarians are landlords. #Insiders
we start with mumblin Phil and his usual schtick. But if this happens that the politics of whatever it was always going to happen it might happen or not rhubarb rhubarb. #Insiders
bit more content from Murphy. She says government MPs understand that “it is going to be very bad” for people coming off fixed interest rates. This is people in a position to buy real property. In this economy. #Insiders
chitter chatter about the RBA. Is there an unusually public loss of confidence in the RBA? “Public jawboning” Murphy calls government politicians trying to manage interest rate rise fallout. Probyn calls higher wages “the enemy”. #Insiders
what can the government DO asks Speers repeatedly. More of the same confused answers based on false assumptions of market theory. Nobody mentions landlords and the propertied class hoarding wealth and taking public handouts and evading tax liabilities. #Insiders
increases to welfare, says Coorey, “they are wary of that will because it will shove money straight into the.. “
he does not finish the sentence. He means poor people will cause [more] inflation. Still no word on who caused current inflation before minimum wage rises. #Insiders
clip of shadow treasurer Angus Taylor, who as energy minister chose to conceal a report on energy price hikes, delivering one of those Liberal Party whinge fest set pieces. Everything is terrible now Labor is in office [paraphrased] is all they ever say. #Insiders
the Treasurer is typically well prepped for this. Their economic plan is three Rs. That will be in the May budget, David. Tricky global conditions. Renters get a [one second] mention!!! Drink #Insiders
he will not set and guess RBA decisions, says Chalmers. Restraint, repair, recovery, he says. Speers wants a headline quote on uncle Phil, knowing there is an RBA review pending, due 31 March. #Insiders
more on Speers trying to pre-empt the RBA review and response. This is for future “but you said” copy instead of communicating actual monetary policy settings and leadership.

We move on to an actual review, from the PC, with > 70 recommendations. #Insiders
invest in our people, cleaner and greener energy, adapt etc this is the Productivity Commission report on future growth and structural investment that Chalmers will release prior to the May deadline set by the legislation. #insiders
the May budget. Will you post a surplus? <endless screaming> #Insiders
commodities windfalls? Will you bank it? “We will bank most of it” says Chalmers. Again this is about pretending the poorest people can or have somehow caused current or future inflation - which corporates run by landlords cause. #Insiders
the Coalition tax policy that Labor waved through. Chalmers says a decision on that can not effect inflation now. In contrast to #RaiseTheRate, apparently. He repeats restraint recovery repair and global pressures. #Insiders
finally. We do not have an inflation problem in our economy because of wages, says Chalmers. But the reserve bank does, says Speers. He repeats “price wage spiral” a few times for good measure. No mention of CEO SALARY PROPERTY INVESTOR SPIRAL. #insiders
yes well of course it was a promise they took to the election so they are sticking to it, says Coorey on the wages question. Always never obviously naturally maybe will maybe not - Coorey, paraphrased. #Insiders
they do exercise direct power over peoples circumstances, Murphy points out helpfully, of the extremely wealthy landlords on the RBA board. Indeed they do. #Insiders
I missed the next bit from Probyn. The “safeguard” mechanism, a government policy, so we get a clip of Dutton talking the usual slogans. It is not a tax, that’s nonsense, says Murphy, amplifying Liberal Party lies as gallery journos are wont to do. #Insiders
my understanding is that the safeguard does not compel polluters to do anything? Isn’t that what Deniss published this week?
Anyway, Murphy says it is about assisting them to meet their obligations. Speers says the Liberals lost 17 seats to the teals lol #Insiders
what the Greens say. No new coal and gas. Probyn says “hydrogen is the cleanest of all fuels”. He calls the Greens “pure” and “idealistic”. Coorey refers twice to “calling their bluff”. Famously balanced stuff here. #Insiders
the perfect being enemy of the good line. Murphy turns sideways to Senator Thorpe and the safeguard legislation. But she says she will vote with the Greens on climate, say the blokes. #Insiders
clip of Tudge weepily indulging his self pity for his political career in tatters and calling it his daughters, in the grand tradition of bullies like Latham and Morrison. The Aston by-election is a panel happy place. Mortgage belt, Voice campaign, leadership etc #Insiders
the old one in 100 year be-election stat that had the press gallery so excited when Kelly resigned and Labor, in opposition, held the seat. Morrison campaigned relentlessly and lost btw #Insiders
clip of Senator Thorpe who says she will campaign for the Blak sovereignty movement. That she is going this from the Senate is unprecedented, historic, bold. The panel make all this about tricky and difficult and splits etc for the Greens party. #Insiders
numbers in the Senate. Probyn says this goes Lambie more power and “it’s a bit of a suck and see. Let’s see if Lidia Thorpe turns up to votes”. Look at it. Not sure there is any evidence of Senator Thorpe not attending votes. He is probably thinking of PHON. #Insiders
the pamphlet. Coorey says “google it” is not adequate for people his age, for over 50s, and the government has to facilitate people seeking more information. Speers reverts to what the pamphlet means for Liberal Party factional infighting [paraphrased] #Insiders
#FinalObservations 1 is Probyn on a third balloon shot down? Is that it? I missed the significance of the weaponry Probyn mentions here. #Insiders
#FinalObs 2 is Murphy on standards in the parliament and how important it is that the ball not be dropped on [sexual misconduct, harassment and violence] #insiders
#FinalObs 3 is Coorey on minerals council lobbyists views of labour hire companies and a panel shoutout to Phil’s mum but the significance of Phil’s mum is only for #Insiders
the outtake is a clip of Zelenskyy who wants more weapons to fight the Russian invasion. #Insiders
this has been another edition of watching #Insiders so you don’t have to 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

politician who promotes locking up children says the police should lock up children this other way.

theguardian.com/society/2023/f…
turns out that when you have bipartisan policy to lock up more children the police do in fact incarcerate many many children.
the second senior police officer in as many weeks has said police are not solving anything by locking up so many children.

good morning☀️happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders the interview is with Cobble Cobble Professor Megan Davis. The panel is ABC referendum corro Dan Bourchier, 9fax (Age/smh) politics corro David Crowe, and 9fax (AFR) columnist Jennifer Hewitt.
opening spiel: the “big ambition” of the Albanese government. Fixing the health system, submarines, referendum. The No campaign is “grabbing attention” - a newsroom choice - says Speers. #Insiders
summary editorialising (“here’s where we are”) is a hotch potch of federal referendum and one local town. The montage is also about Mparntwe. Dutton gets a run, lying about the usual rank disunity in the Liberal Party room. #Insiders

good morning☀️happy December! Today on #Insiders are murdoch politics editor Samantha Maiden, ABC newsreader Dan Bourchier and ABC politics editor Andrew Probyn. The interview is with Indigenous Australians minister Linda Burney.
the government finishes the year on a high, says Speers. Significant reforms passed and Morrison censured. But the Nationals announcement on not supporting a Yes vote on the Voice referendum is “not everything went the governments way” #Insiders
the media are hyping the Nationals announcement as a No campaign. What the Nationals SAID was they will not support the proposal for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice to Parliament. #Insiders

hearing the murdoch and nine entertainment campaign against Daniel Andrews has failed to persuade Vic voters of their agenda.
political journalists and polling companies - who constantly get elections wrong because they exist to profit from promoting bullshit conflict narratives and Coalition agenda - will, as always, keep their jobs.
the rank whiff of meritocracy mythology is strong tonight.
