Our conversation is guided by "The Fourth Turning" which theorizes history seems to repeat in cycles every four generations.

This pattern shows up throughout American history, with the Revolution, Civil War, and Great Depression/WWII punctuating the previous cycles.
We currently find ourselves at the end of the most recent cycle, the death throes of neoliberalism. One of two things will happen: we will descend into fascism OR we will develop something new and fully realize the American promise.
