I write and talk about Indiana politics, history, and culture from a social democratic perspective.

Howdy, #HoosierTwitter. Beamed directly to your inboxes this morning, my conversation with Katrina Owens, one of the most impressive state-level candidates I've interviewed in 2024. owens4in.com
In this episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, we discuss her big three areas of focus: Human Rights, Economic Security, and Infrastructure. It turns out they're inextricably linked.

#Indiana, do you remember 2008? When @BarackObama won the Hoosier state? Well, Pepperidge Farms remembers, and so do I.
What happened? Did Republican policies get more popular? No! Did our fellow Hoosiers get more conservative? No! As @TheDestinyWells says, we're a purple state with a turnout problem. indianacitizen.org/a-bit-of-a-lin…

Hey #Indiana, I am really excited for the congressional candidacy of @ErikDHurt! I've gotten a chance to spend a little time with him over the past few weeks, and he couldn't be a nicer guy. erikhurtforcongress.com
He brings a bold, progressive vision for the people in Indiana's 8th District, #EVille #Terredise. It was nice to meet in person at the @INDems convention this weekend, but we first spoke for the #HoosLeft podcast.

Many of you on #HoosierTwitter know Micah Beckwith, the GOP nominee for Lt. Gov. @Mister_L_Bear has done a particularly good job exposing his BS. If you don't know him, let me introduce the self-proclaimed Christian nationalist.
And BTW, traditional Indiana media, quit calling him ultra-conservative. Joe Biden, 2/3 of Dems, and a handful of GOP are conservative. Maybe 1/3 of Dems are progressive. Beckwith and the MAGA faction are reactionary, regressive, extremists. They don't conserve, they destroy.

#HoosLeft podcast is out with a new episode. Today's topic: college sports. Why is a leftist political podcast talking about sports? I cover Indiana politics, history, and culture. And you can't discuss Indiana culture without sports.
The @NCAA, a feckless organization that gives all bureaucrats a bad name, anchors @WhiteRiverStPrk in downtown Indianapolis. If there's one thing everybody in this politically polarized country can agree on, it's that the NCAA is terrible.

Happy 2024 #Indiana. In a new episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, we LEAP into the New Year with @DavidSandersRep, discussing the IEDC and the LEAP "innovation district." I'm a dad. I make puns. This is what we do.
LEAP is a 9,000 acre development put together by the IEDC to lure advanced manufacturing and high tech industry to Indiana. Behold, their slick presentation:
Right-wing politicos, manosphere grifters, and religious bigots have played on male insecurity to push extremist ideologies, exert control, and separate fools from their money. thenation.com/article/cultur…
But here's the thing; this entire grift is nothing new. Look at the history of moral panic over the 'wussification' of men: threadreaderapp.com/thread/1572713…

In a very special episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, we're boycotting post-Thanksgiving holiday commercialism to dive into the life of my all-time favorite Hoosier.
Eugene V. Debs, a Terre Haute native, was a labor leader, five-time presidential candidate, anti-war activist, and prison abolitionist. Active around the turn of the 20th century, he is still the most successful socialist presidential candidate in US history.

In the final #HoosLeft podcast before Election Day 2023, I keep things right here in #Bloomington, giving the final word to city council candidate Hopi Stosberg.
hopi.stosberg.com
I thank my lucky stars every day I live in Bloomington, the most progressive city in #Indiana. Our openness, diversity, and good governance are things I have for too long taken for granted, and public servants like Hopi are a major reason we have such a great community.

Happy Friday #Indiana. In a new episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, I welcome @madvoters co-founder Chelsea McDonnel. madvoters.org
Both Chelsea and I have recently been interviewed by our friend Stephanie Wilson from @hoosier_victory Alliance. Mine hasn't dropped yet, but Chelsea's episode dropped Monday and is absolutely worth a listen. hoosiervictoryalliance.org/podcast

The #HoosLeft podcast is out with a new episode. I was happy to welcome @hoosier_victory, Stephanie Wilson, to talk about the ways we claw back power from the @indgop supermajority.

If you follow the brilliant @DavidPepper, you know how effective Republicans have been at neutralizing the federal government and letting the states experiment with autocracy.
On the newest episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, I welcome our good friend @LinearRadio back to the show for an early look at the state of the 2024 races for Senate and Governor in #Indiana.
shows.acast.com/63e164d9b455cc… via @acast
We start with the Senate race and have a look at @RepJimBanks, a Jan 6 seditionist, bully, perjurer, and founder of the ridiculously stupid "anti-woke caucus." He would be @GovRonDeSantis' mini-me if the Pinochet from Tampa Bay wasn't so mini already.

Hey #Indiana, on last week's #HoosLeft podcast, I wrestled with whether or not the Democratic Party is the best route for progressive change.
I decided that, imperfections and all, the nature of our system yields two parties. If we want to change that, we need to use the infrastructure already in place to gain the power do so.

Hey there #Indiana, we need to talk about the @indgop supermajority and their shameful version of Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law. scottaaronrogers.substack.com/p/indiana-gop-…#HB 1608 passed in the House last Thursday and will move onto the Senate this week. This disgraceful bill stigmatizes trans kids, as if they weren't struggling enough already.
A good Sunday morning to you #HoosierTwitter. In this week's Substack article, we're talking about the #SuperBowl
scottaaronrogers.substack.com/p/the-super-bo…
Not to be a bummer, but the National Football League is a pretty horrific organization. You might not notice if you're only watching on Sundays, but if you look between the headlines, you'll find a multi-billion dollar empire built on exploitation.
