And a few other ideas for a #Eurobubble #ValentinesDay :

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
For our level playing field,
Let me lobby you.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Vetos are a pain,
Let's reform the EU.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I'm DG COMP,
We're raiding you.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I can't stand the train,
Screw you Strasbourg.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Access my Single Market,
No UK - not you.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I have freedom of mandate,
Transparency how dare you.

🧵[THREAD] The (regular) sight of an empty hemicycle in the European Parliament is the result of a combination of things, some legit, other less so:

1) Plenary agenda are not just the plenary
2) EP politics is a specialist's job
3) Debates are NOT debates
4) MEPs are human too
1) Plenary agenda are not just the plenary

On top of debates & votes, TONS of stuff happen at the same time: political group meeting, meeting with lobbyists, committee meetings, trilogues, etc.

MEPs agenda are usually packed & hemicycle presence can only be a small part of it.
These side meetings are as important, if not more, as what's happening in the hemicycle. Like deciding what to vote the next day, negotiating legislation or meeting your fellow MEPs to update them.

And then you have the usual parliamentary work that doesn't stop for the plenary.

🧵THREAD🧵

Yesterday, Belgian police arrested Vice-President of the European Parliament Eva Kaili, a Greek Socialist, over suspicion of corruption by Qatar.

So here's a thread on something that will likely come into play: MEP parliamentary immunities.

lesoir.be/482080/article…
Members of the European Parliament, like their national counterpart enjoy a number of privileges to facilitate their duty as MEPs.

One of these privileges is a parliamentary immunity that prevents any detention or legal proceeding against them in the course of their mandate.
This immunity guarantees the MEPs' freedom to say/do whatever is necessary to fulfil their mandate, and to protect them from pressures or punishement for their opinions/votes while doing their job.

In short, MEPs must be allowed to piss off people without fear of retribution.

My efforts to bring EU politics on #Twitch continue, with a great start yesterday for my second season and a lot to unpack.

Beyond the typical stuff (new emotes, bots, visuals, interface, etc.), the key work for this season is MORE.

Here's a summary of what to expect👇👇👇
Season 1 was a single stream per week. Season 2 will be 4-5 streams every week.

In addition to my usual interviews (at least twice what Season 1 had), three new regular streams will complete my schedule. Not counting the odd EU streams I intend to do every now and then.
Mondays at 20:00 will be my gaming streams, where I'll play games that were funded with @MEDIAprogEU.

Tuesdays to Thursdays will be for my regular EU streams/interviews.

Sundays at 20:00 will be my weekly EU news review, to sum up some of the main EU news and discuss them.
