This is a concept @Thom_Hartmann comes back to repeatedly on his radio show. If you only listen to one lefty media personality (other than me of course), you can't do much better than Hartmann.
These 80 year cycles correspond neatly with major historical events. The American Revolution, Civil War, Great Depression/WWII, and our current moment are all about four generations apart.
Our current cycle began with the postwar baby boom. Student action and civil strife marked the 60's and 70's, and the Reagan Revolution came in response to that. Reagan's neoliberal order crashed with 2008's financial meltdown.
We've been living in the fallout of that collapse ever since. Disillusion with or dysfunctional system has led far too many of our countrymen to turn to authoritarianism.
"May you live in interesting times" is a curse for a reason. But we find ourselves at a pivotal moment and we cannot hide from our destiny. We can either descend into fascism or come up with something new and fully realize the American promise.
So please join us. We meander some. We go over time. But I think you'll find it worth a listen. I humbly ask you subscribe and share widely. The podcast is available wherever you get your podcasts, as well as at my Substack page. Thanks #Indiana.

Filmmaker Jen Senko lost her dad down the rabbit hole. In her efforts to bring him back to sanity, she discovered a 50-year plan to turn people against democracy and move the country far to the right. thebrainwashingofmydad.com
She's my guest on this week's #HoosLeft Podcast. In our interview, she breaks down the oligarchs' evil scheme, talks about the neurological processes right-wing media hijacks with anger and fear, and tells us how she ultimately got her dad back. scottaaronrogers.substack.com/p/episode-63-t…
Howdy, #HoosierTwitter. Beamed directly to your inboxes this morning, my conversation with Katrina Owens, one of the most impressive state-level candidates I've interviewed in 2024. owens4in.com
In this episode of the #HoosLeft podcast, we discuss her big three areas of focus: Human Rights, Economic Security, and Infrastructure. It turns out they're inextricably linked.
Check it out on Substack, YouTube, and wherever you get your podcasts. Since Elongated Muskrat doesn't like links, follow my LinkTree over to Substack, where you can find everything I publish. Subscribe while you're there!
#Indiana, do you remember 2008? When @BarackObama won the Hoosier state? Well, Pepperidge Farms remembers, and so do I.
What happened? Did Republican policies get more popular? No! Did our fellow Hoosiers get more conservative? No! As @TheDestinyWells says, we're a purple state with a turnout problem. indianacitizen.org/a-bit-of-a-lin…
Nobody explains how we got here better than @DavidPepper, and I'm honored to have hosted him for my latest episode of the #HoosLeft podcast.
Hey #Indiana, I am really excited for the congressional candidacy of @ErikDHurt! I've gotten a chance to spend a little time with him over the past few weeks, and he couldn't be a nicer guy. erikhurtforcongress.com
He brings a bold, progressive vision for the people in Indiana's 8th District, #EVille #Terredise. It was nice to meet in person at the @INDems convention this weekend, but we first spoke for the #HoosLeft podcast.
Over two episodes (dude can talk!), we dig into the rigged economy, healthcare, education, immigration, abortion rights and his MAGA opponent's weird priorities.
Many of you on #HoosierTwitter know Micah Beckwith, the GOP nominee for Lt. Gov. @Mister_L_Bear has done a particularly good job exposing his BS. If you don't know him, let me introduce the self-proclaimed Christian nationalist.
And BTW, traditional Indiana media, quit calling him ultra-conservative. Joe Biden, 2/3 of Dems, and a handful of GOP are conservative. Maybe 1/3 of Dems are progressive. Beckwith and the MAGA faction are reactionary, regressive, extremists. They don't conserve, they destroy.
Anyway, Becky claims Christian nationalism just means loving "Jesus and America, too" like something out of a Tom Petty song.
#HoosLeft podcast is out with a new episode. Today's topic: college sports. Why is a leftist political podcast talking about sports? I cover Indiana politics, history, and culture. And you can't discuss Indiana culture without sports.
The @NCAA, a feckless organization that gives all bureaucrats a bad name, anchors @WhiteRiverStPrk in downtown Indianapolis. If there's one thing everybody in this politically polarized country can agree on, it's that the NCAA is terrible.
College sports are a uniquely American institution. Other countries may have quaint club-level contests, like the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. In the good 'ol USA, we have a capitalist, exploitative juggernaut - a $16B industry. pbs.org/newshour/econo…
