JK hasn't seen his family since he left his hometown after school to start a new life far away from expectations and the traditional world views he has been brought up with. The last words his parents and brothers were that he will never make and come crawling back.
But JK made it. He runs a successful photography studio with his two best friends, has a nice place to live and an occasional one night stand.
Life is good. Life is great.
And he doesn't waste a thought of his past.
Until he gets a call that one of his brothers has died. He is reluctant to go to the funeral, but finally decides to go.
As expected, his family treats him like dirt, but hushed whispers and remarks make him go alone to his brother's house where nobody wanted him to go.
What he finds in the basement makes his blood run cold.
He remembers Tae. The bubbly and cute omega everyone in school had a crush on. A smart and charming beauty.
An omega who has nothing in common with the young man who is shackled and tries to hide a little boy from JK, and only calms when he recognizes him.
Without further thinking he takes Tae and the boy and takes them with him to Seoul, knowing that Tae has no family in hus own and that his own father is the chief of police who never helped his brother's omega slave...

🦑 angst with a happy ending
Getting recruited in a "simple job", as they call it, after being fresh from prison for a crime he was framed for, Tae is happy though to make some good money when he is brought to an island where he is supposed to be a guard for some sort of rich people's entertainment.
His short training already gives him an idea what this is about, but when he witnesses the first people getting killed for a game, he is shocked and wants to get away, but there is no way off the island without getting killed himself, and so he settles into his fate.

Tae's marriage to Bogum is a catastrophe.
The omega's alpha husband has been picked by his parents, and instead of following his dreams, the young man finds himself in a marriage with a cheating, manipulative, and abusive husband.
But that's how alphas are, aren't they?
While accepting his life like the good, demure omega he has been brought up to be, Tae only secretly dreams of a different life - one with a job in fashion, a family that loves and respects him, and a mate that is a partner and not a tyrant.

The only way for alpha JK to keep his baby is marrying his ex who doesn't want him or the child, and being dumped at the courthouse on his wedding day should not be a surprise, but it means that he as an alpha will face problems getting custody for his child.
Omega Tae faces a similar problem - he has been repeatably told that he has to provide a stable environment for his own baby, but being single and not wanting to tell anyone who fathered his baby, CPS is threatening him more and more.
It was the only choice he could make, and he knew it.
Had known it the moment he had come back to their shared apartment after staying with Jungkook for a few days and the only thing that happened was…nothing.
No “good you are back”, no getting up and wrapping him into a warm embrace, no feeling of belonging and home. Nothing but a cold place that he immediately knew he did not belong in any longer.
