Good morning #arpx! It’s week seven and we’re here to give you live updates of the #arleg.
Watching S-State Agencies now, lots of election bills on the agenda today. Be sure to follow for any important updates, or click the link to watch with us 🍿 sg001-harmony.sliq.net/00284/Harmony/…
#SB254 is up in committee. This bill would get rid of write in candidates. The goal is to “streamline”
#SB272 up next. It would create a post election review on absentee voting. Is it necessary? Nope. Creates more work and isn’t a great use of #arpx resources.
Just chipping away at public trust. This narrative of fraud does nothing but scare Arkansans, and they know it. #arleg
Sen. Tucker says that this could really hurt specific counties. He says there should be more details on the random selection of counties to be audited each cycle. Bill sponsor says that will be dealt with via rules. #arpx#arleg
#SB273 is up next, which would modify the selection of voting locations. Primarily deals with runoff elections & vote centers
Basically, if a runoff occurs, the voting location must fall within the precincts of the candidates. The goal is to make sure there are voting centers available to voters participating in the runoff election. #arpx#arleg
#HB1307, the anti “woke” bank bill, is up now in #arleg Senate State Agencies. Basically says “#arpx will only do business with banks that do what we want”
Can you say government overreach?
Retirement systems will be exempt from the policy (if it passes).
Tucker: Why do we need this?
Wardlaw: Some banks don’t fund the gun industry
That doesn’t really sound like a good reason though??
Wardlaw also unable to provide a fiscal impact. “Oh, I believe it’ll cost something” -Wardlaw #arpx#arleg
Sen. Payton now voicing concerns, but here’s the thing: he’s a cosponsor 🤦♀️
Y’all need to start asking these questions before putting your name on a bill that you don’t fully support. #arpx#arleg
Sen. Payton says that #HB1307 “is not done yet” citing the process outlined in the bill. As written, the decision of whether or not to ban a bank is up to two people: the Attorney General and #arpx Treasurer. Payton wants a panel. #arleg
#HB1307 has been pulled down. Can expect to see an amendment in the near future. #arpx
That’s it for #arleg Senate State Agencies. Thanks for following along!

Context: Sen. Dan Sullivan was behind the Craighead Co. ballot petition that slashed the library's budget in half — all b/c the library had a table with a PRIDE display: #arpx#arlegkait8.com/2022/09/29/sen…
Sen. Sullivan now brings his library crusade to the Senate. SB81 would make it illegal for libraries to post "obscene material" or distribute library materials that are "harmful" to minors. #arpx#arlegarkleg.state.ar.us/Bills/FTPDocum…
The #arleg House has voted to hear #SB731, despite the DFA testifying that the federal #covid relief funds CANNOT be used in the context of the bill. #arpx#arnews
Rep. Ray says that #SB731 will cause more issues; he says that this is creating a new protected class in #arpx law.
This extended session has really reviled rips within the #arleg GOP.
House is back. #HB1982 is up for a vote. Rep. Speaks is explaining all the changes that have been made. #arpx#arleg#FairMapsAR
Lots of discussion about the impact of #HB1982 and what it will do to communities of color. Remember, the two slivers of Pulaski that are being cut out of the 2nd are 65% and 70% nonwhite.
@tippi31 brings up the fact that it’s been hard for #arleg to keep up with meetings, so to expect the public to do so is not right. #arpx#arnews#FairMapsAR
