This account of the Tigray War origins is a self serving pathetic attempt by @martinplaut to pre-empt what he well knows has already been clearly established in numerous authoritative accounts of the war.
The eyewitness accounts include two books by survivors of the shocking massacre in the night of Nov 3rd-4th 2020 when 1000s ENDF forces who had gathered in Mekelle for a handover of the Northern Command were killed. Many had their throats slit as they slept.
Six other outposts of the ENDF in Tigray Region were also scène to surprise late night murder and mayhem, including a base in Dansheha north of Gondar on the road to Humera.

People I spoke to in Alamata Raya on Nov 2O22 also provided accounts of TPLF forces deploying there.
Then there is the famous video broadcast of by the senior TPLF official on Tigrai TV (soon after found dead I his car) who described the attack plan as being modelled on Israel’s 1967 6-Day war.
There is even a credible if unconfirmed copy of a strategy document planning the attack written by the TPLF in Arpunf September 2020 that was found after the war in a car.
Also TPLF launched long range missile attacks launched on both Asmara and Gondar in the opening days of the war.
Two final data points that perhaps @martinplaut and Miriam van Reisen might like to try to explain are:
- why the war began on the night of US Elections
&
- how it is that a #tigraygenocide social media campaign was launched on the night of the attack….
… if as claimed the war was started by the ENDF. They might perhaps also explain trajectory and rapid growth of that @Twitter campaign not withstanding it coinciding with blanket coverage of the US presidential election.
All the evidence I have seen over the past 2 years points to a well organised pre-planned TPLF lighting attack - one which was only repelled thanks to the astonishing efforts of Amhara special forces FANO and residual ENDF forces.
In Mekelle on the day of the attack there was indeed a flight from Addis carrying new currency to pay the troops. Which was accompanied by an escort. But it was hijacked on arrival, the currency was taken and the escorting soldiers seized.
Later in the day a special officers dinner was held for the officers of the ENDF who had gathered to mark the handover. At midnight ENDF officers who were not loyal to the TPLF were then murdered in their beds.
I seriously hope that news media take @martinplaut’s account - that of long time consistently loyal TPLF cadre - who even publicly admitted to swearing an oath of loyalty to the TPLF - for what it is; misinformation.

So much for deescalation. #UkraineRussiaWar

Biden visits Ukraine and Russia responds with this….

The likelihood of internal NATO tension around strategy here is increasing. And the Seymour Hersh revelations r.e. Nordstream sabotage are still lingering in the wings.
Three way talks between the EU, Russia and the US are needed to restore a possibility & a semblance of substance to notions this war will not just keep escalating.
This commentary is from January 7th during the lead up to the Leopard Tanks discussion which eventually led to a « compromise » that the US would provide Abrams Heavy Tanks - not withstanding the logistical obstacles.

It appears 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 and Hargeisa have come to their senses and backed off a several month long ruinous path towards a secession of #Somaliland.

Albeit only after a lot of conflict and needless death. Excellent interesting report here via ⁦@AlJazeeraaljazeera.com/news/2023/2/20…
It is revealing that the beginning of a return to sanity in Hargeisa in this imperialist - western power driven - lethal misadventure appears to have come after a tweet from @AsstSecStateAF Molly Phee (who has this past week been in Addis with a high level delegation.)
The most useful thing that the Western Powers - EU NATO & US (presently engaged in #JustifiedAccord DoD led exercises) could do to end this debacle once and for all would be to recall their provocateur in chief in this region - Matthew Bryden aka @dibjir.

Is this normal now, or this more American exceptionalism.

"Q: Do I need to go through US immigration for a connecting flight?

A: Yes, all US intll airports have immigration and customs for all arriving passengers arriving in the US as their first port of entry into the US."
This shit seriously weirds me out. It all started with 9/11 and the box cutters. Within hours it "FELT like" we had scanners on every flight in NZ (actually took a while of course).
China and India now have biometrics on arrival too. Which I am certain is just a passive aggresive response to US stupid.

This looks like storm surge.

I wondered if #CycloneGabrielle would perhaps be the first cyclone in living memory to arrive at close to full cyclonic strength. And if not when that might happen.

Whilst it didn’t it is having the impact of a land falling cyclone anyway.
The size of recent cyclonic storms has increased markedly over recent years.

Cyclones are getting bigger and wetter, longer lived and travel longer distances. #CycloneGabrielle is a perfect example of this.
Extra tropical cyclones are always larger also, they collapse and spread out. What makes Gabrielle particularly unusual in cyclone terms is its continuing strength and slow speed post extra tropical transition.

Why exactly is it @LaurenBinDC that your primary concern about the recent religious crisis in Ethiopia relates to the alleged presence of Fano there. What evidence do you have of this apart from (apparently) a tweet from @wdavison10
An alleged journalist who blocks fellow journalists.
