(1/29) Its been a pretty *based* week for Layer 2, if you catch my drift! With the @coinbase announcement, debate around prover latency, & sequencer drama, & more, we've had our hands full! π§΅π
(2/29) Can you settle a rollup on two chains? π€ Consensus is no, based on how we likely define "settlement". What do you think?
(3/29) @stonecoldpat0 released "Tiers of Transaction Finality for Rollups." Rollups separate the process of ordering txs from execution to provide tiers of finality, & there's confusion about what we mean when we say "finality." Let's clear things up! π
(4/29) @aeyakovenko posits sequential state deps mean that inevitably a zk prover falls further & further behind, even w/ parallelization. π€― This discounts various ways we can use parallelization & batching, & is too pessimistic. What do you think?
(5/29) @toghrulmaharram argues that the prover delay argument made by @aeyakovenko misses the beauty of how provers can be architected within a rollup system. There are many optimizations that can address the prover delay concern. π
(6/29) @jbaylina jumped in to clarify that the prover is not a bottleneck to #zkrollup scalability! Just spin up more provers in parallel as needed! β¨
(7/29) @EclipseFND released a handy explanation of "sovereign rollups." There are truly tradeoffs everywhere, but there definitely could be situations where a sovereign rollup meets the needs of devs and users alike! π What do you think?
(8/29) The @eigenlayer whitepaper came out this week and we've got lots of discussion around what it means for Rollups! Here's @0xdoug asking if EigenLayer will make Rollups irrelevant (spoiler: it will not!).
(12/29) @CelestiaOrg announced RollKit, which allows devs to customize rollups & plug in arbitrary data availability and execution layers. π€― Long-term vision to provide devs w/ variety of options so they can easily plug-in, switch, & replace features. β¨
(13/29) @MetaMask Bridges now supports @arbitrum π΅ and @optimismFND π΄! MetaMask Bridges provide a seamless bridge aggregator experience right from your wallet. Love seeing ecosystem support for our growing Layer 2 world! π
(14/29) @ClassLambda shared their progress on Lambdaworks, a library for people interested in learning how to do SNARKs and other cryptographic stuff! πβ¨
(15/29) @coinbase announced @BuildOnBase, a Layer 2 Rollup that is a fork of Optimism! π Base will be the onchain home for Coinbase, giving the company entry into the DeFi world similar to BSC's impact on Binance. A major boost to the L2 narrative! π
(18/29) @gelatonetwork released a guide to @optimismFND's Bedrock! π₯ This modular approach to Rollups is a big deal and if you haven't heard of it before, here is a chance to get caught up!
(20/29) @henrlihenrli shared some previously unshared videos about StarkNet! There is some serious alpha in these. Highly recommend checking out this 𧡠and getting Stark-pilled! β€οΈ
(21/29) @nethermindeth wants to teach you how to audit #Starknet smart contracts! π€ Check out their introduction to Horus, their open-source formal verification tool!
(22/29) @gluk64 dives into the rollup security trilemma & how @ZKync approaches the very real set of rollup security considerations. My favorite nugget of wisdom is "Security requires redundant multi-layered fault-tolerance. Defense in depth." π€
(23/29) @camiinthisthang asked when and how L2 <> L2 bridging might work, leading to lots of interesting opinions! The tl;dr is that there are several solutions in progress, but each comes with its own technical considerations and security assumptions.
(24/29) The ConsenSys zk-EVM is now integrated into @HopProtocol's testnet site ! π Bridge away to try out the newest zkEVM competitor on the scene! π
(25/29) @0xDinoEggs shared his vision that proofs (zk or optimistic) will simply be implementation details in the future. I wonder how far out this exciting future is based on the current state of things. π€ What do you think?
(27/29)πΏ Drama unfolding in the @arbitrum & @FlashBots discords! Arbitrum devs proposed PoW mechanism to disincentivize sybil attacks by MEV searchers on the sequencer relay. Concerns: wasteful & won't accrue value to the protocol/ecosystem.
(1/14) Hi there! I've been busy thinking through ways I can fight the patriarchy, but we just can't ignore the #Layer2 siren call, can we? Here's your weekly π§΅π!
(2/14) @MetaMask announced they'll soon be rolling out a #Layer2 onramp for buying crypto on @Arbitrum and @OptimismPBC. Fantastic development for people who want an on-ramp that doesn't require a centralized exchange or a bridge!
(1/12) Hi there! π We've all been a bit distracted by the $UST & $LUNA implosion and the overall bearishness in the market, but the #Layer2#Ethereum space never sleeps! Here's are some highlights from this week! π§΅π
(2/12) @epolynya made a plea to "remove plutocracies from even the first line of defence, and replace them with more democratic systems" in blockchain architecture:
(3/22) There's a bit of a disagreement going on about whether Celestiums are similar to Layer 2 rollups. I agree with @dankrad that the security guarantees of Celestiums are not comparable. What do you think?
(2/15) Growth of the #Layer2#Ethereum ecosystem will drive ETH to new heights! Check out this thread by @RyanBerckmans for more on L2s and ETH economics:
(1/16) It's Friday! You know that means I have a 𧡠for you on this week's #Ethereum#Layer2 happenings! #L222 is truly flourishing. Enjoy! π
(2/16) The bridge π design space is heating up! Bridges are necessary but also a potentially lucrative attack vector. Take a look at @bkiepuszewski's excellent π§΅on risk frameworks for considering #Layer2 bridges:
(3/16) @mycomeg and @schmiddominik1 put together a really informative document on what the growth of #Layer2 protocols means for the broader Ethereum ecosystem. I'm quoted in it so I'm a bit biased but it is a fantastic read! π consensys.net/blog/blockchaiβ¦
(1/14) Your weekly thread on #l222 is here! The #Ethereum#Layer2 space is growing at a breakneck speed, so you'll find that my threads will focus on educational materials and protocol updates primarily, to provide the best signal to noise ratio. Here we go! π§΅π
(2/14) @BanklessHQ killing it with the #Layer2 content! Want to read more about the coming Layer 2 token landscape, from token economics to how L2 tokens could affect the price of #Ethereum? Check out the writeup here:
