Okay, I'm now up to the Deathly Hallows films
I think my fav film so far is Half-Blood Prince

it's the most film-like & still balances the "yar a wizard harry" aspect of the series with the serious dramatic tension.

Great film; I would actually watch it again.

Jim Broadbent plays Professor Slughorn & totally nails the role.

He is actually likable & relatable without the script telling you this is the guy you are supposed to like

He brings in the sense of a deeper philosophical world in Harry Potter & makes it feel more lived-in.
When people talk about the Harry Potter movies & the best talents, they rarely bring up Broadbent,

Usually, it's Gary Oldman or Alan Rickman, sometimes the 2 actors that played Dumbledore

But Broadbent's Slughorn holds my attention & makes me want to see more of that character.
Perhaps because I'm now an adult watching these films, I find his performance more technically impressive than instead of an angsty young adult

Rickman sells the tickets, but Broadbent does not.
But of the two, I like Broadbent a whole lot more.
I love the absolutely awful color grading of this film,
the browns work really well for Harry Potter,

You get some of the warmth of the Columbus films with the serious tone of the later entries.
At the time, people absolutely hated Half-Blood Prince for the emphasis on teenage romantic relationships & SNOGGING (which I didn't know til reading the book was British slang for making out)

but looking back, I find those bits endearing; it makes the characters very relatable
Lastly, I love Half-Blood Prince because this is the one Harry Potter film that treats Ron as he is in the books,

Not just a comic relief, not just Hermoine's punching bag but a 3-dimensional character.

Before this rewatch, I would have told U Half-Blood Prince was of the weaker entries in this series,

& I love what Alfonso Cuarón did with Azkaban; that film is still fantastic.

But I must say Half-Blood Prince is the Harry Potter film I most enjoyed rewatching.

human nature to blame others w/ disabilities on some intrinsic force, such as they are making it up or did something to cause it

& blame our disability on external forces & therefore outside of our control

why we need to think these things through before gut judgment calls
Life is complicated, things can be really messed up,

unless you have reason to suspect otherwise I do recommend folks take a disabled person at their word in terms of their own health challenges
My grandma who was a rehab nurse for almost 4 decades has a good saying:

If there's a part of the human body
someone out there has that part broken

Few medical issues get officially diagnosed w/ sympathy to match

We should be kind cuz medical issues don't fit easily into boxes

No, this is wrong,

Anxiety disorders can be extremely disabling,
& they qualify for welfare assistance in most western countries

I've met people who cannot leave a single room in their apartment because of solely extreme anxiety disorder
Now is there a problem with Genz & tiktokers self-diagnosing anxiety disorders, yes, some social contagion going on

But that doesn't invalidate the millions of Americans with well-documented, officially diagnosed anxiety disorders as having those disorders control their lives
pls @ZaldanExtremist & anyone else,

do not confuse people with actual anxiety disorders to the weirdos that plague the internet

There are truly horrible mental illnesses out there, not everyone claiming to be bipolar or have Tourette's syndrome is making it up

I gotta go try to lay down now
this is making me much too angry
BTW, DEA is saying this will only apply to first time visits, that is garbage🗑️

We all know how this game is played, set a precedent & dare folks to cross the line.

line is now every visit needs a physical appointment for a prescription, the dare is to not do it every time
Guess what? Physicians aren't that stupid,

we all know what this means & it will mean fewer patients get to see a doctor & more abandoned patients not understanding how a cruel society can chuck them out like yesterday's garbage

n the upper midwest, theres a pain clinic shortage, as in no one wants to work at a pain clinic,

Sanford just killed all their pain clinics in my home state of South Dakota; this is not a glorious or unrisky profession.

DEA & Biden just tied a cement block to a drowning man
One of the few positives from Covid is that telehealth was allowed to expand; the tech had been there for over a decade, but big-med prevented it.

But Covid pushed legislators & the President to finally allow this change in American medicine.

We should not go back.
If I have to meet in person every time w/ my provider to fill my meds that means instead of having a routine short appt to fit my work schedule

I have to spend a whole day for a doctor's appointment & enlist a family member to drive me & help me get the prescription picked up

ooh boy,
we are going to see a lot of pain specialists consider leaving the practice after this change 😖

apnews.com/article/prescr…
problem w/ this requirement,

pain specialists already have to see patients, but they do not have to see them in person for every single visit

patients are visiting weekly or monthly,

so it makes 0 sense to require them to come in person for every appt to get their meds
In some states, it's impossible to get a 30-day prescription, so you are telling patients they have to meet with a pain doc in person once a week to get their basic pain meds?

Who is paying for that? Who has the time?
Has anyone thought this through?

Beyond crazy interview goal:
@jk_rowling

nypost.com/2023/02/21/the…
@jk_rowling 👋

Hey Joanne, if by some miracle you see this, I'd be honored to interview you for our podcast CultureScape to talk about your literary work & your hard-fought efforts to defend classical liberal values like the freedom of speech & conscience.

I think it would be… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
I have goals,

mostly I try to be realistic, but I find it helps to have bigger ones as well, things to work towards or hope you can one day rise to that level where it can be made a reality

Interviewing someone as cool & influential as @jk_rowling is a great one.
