Dear *everyone* in BC: if you don't already do so, you really must follow @PoP_BC for their expertise (and sharing of it) re: Covid
Healthcare workers & researchers united to provide accurate information on COVID and support evidence-based health policy #PoPBC
BC rec'd 140,000 free doses of Paxlovid, and have used only 10% - rest are in warehouses...
via @PoP_BC live stream happening NOW.
Paxlovid - 2 main benefits: 1. lessens severity 2. lessens chance of LongCovid
Important to get Paxlovid w/in 5 days of onset;
Most people, including even many docs and pharmacists, don't know it's possible (although difficult) to get a pre-emptive Rx
Long Covid is devastating and Paxlovid can lessen chances of acquiring it.
14.8 % of Canadians who got covid; now have long covid. heart disease, neurological problems - docs now and especially ongoing need to consider LC in Dx - "how many times have you had covid?"
@PoP_BC is fighting to change criteria of who can receive Paxlovid. In BC, must be 70+ and CEV; not so in other provinces. Being able to receive it, shouldn't depend on postal code..
Risk of developing some of the most severe long covid conditions; are reduced by up to 26% if you've rec'd paxlovid
@PoP_BC is asking for Paxlovid
to be available at age of 50,
irrespective of vax status,
education campaign for public and for health professionals
look at criteria to be eligible
not be dependent on postal code
BC stop being gatekeeper
Long Covid Protection (19 min must watch vid)

The Maskless Masses
A Fri. eve tale (I'll unroll it at end for ur reading ease) Chapter
1/ I'm so angry at all 'pretend covid is over folk'. Tho' that anger is aimed in large part to health officials, this eve it's the unmasked public to whom I direct my wrath. Let me explain:
2/ I was forced to visit LDrugs in person for an urgent Rx.
I really didn't want to expose anyone else and my RATs all week have been neg. but I really had no choice as w/out the meds, my precarious health would be further at risk.
3/Waiting for 1/2hr, w/my always worn N95, coughing almost uncontrollably as dozens of pharmacy patrons. all unmasked (presumably ill/vulnerable) show zero level of alarm, or don a mask even to protect themselves.
I have a serious ? #YYJ#YYJPoli . We're all debating/arguing #housing- what is the best path to get the results we want? BUT - how can we possibly agree on best route; if we haven't even discussed where we want to go? 1/
2/ I mean, really... think about it...
What is our destination?
What do we want #Victoria#YYJ to be now and in future?
How big?
How dense?
How many people?
3/I'm sure we can agree, that the need for housing keeps increasing, both from:
current residents (and I'll add former, who have been forced out)
AND rising demand from ppl wanting to move here to enjoy the west coast life style, climate.
I haven't yet said much about #YYJ#YYJPoli, council candidate Chris Coleman; cause I assume most #Victorians know him well. I'm thrilled he's running and will bring his extensive skill/experience to our city chriscoleman.ca/biography/
It's well worthwhile to follow Chris Coleman on fb...
He updates regularly with informative and interesting insights from his campaign and reactions he's getting from #YYJ peeps #yyjpolifacebook.com/profile.php?id…
2/ "I was speaking as the head of the #CityFamily "
Am I the only one who thinks it's beyond weird (and ultra colonial speak/action) that the elected #YYJ city mayor/councillors; decide which indigenous ppl get invited to #CityFamily? (and speak on their behalf?) #reconciliation
3/ "I am the Family head.. absolutely"
"wow wow wow wow" #YYJPoli#CityFamily
"I was representing the will of the family"
Good morning #YYJ-What's up? Having my am coffee, reading the Accessibility Framework Document submitted to CoV in 2020, by the #AWG (Accessibility Working Group) volunteers formed by city to provide recommendations to make Victoria more inclusive.#yyjpoli victoria.ca/assets/Departm…
2/some excerpts:
In order to achieve the vision identified in our
OCP the City must take positive steps to remove barriers, involve those with diverse perspectives
and abilities, promote inclusion, and foster a positive and respectful community through its actions
and services.
3/The City of Victoria is committed to
identifying, removing, and preventing
barriers across its services, programs,
and infrastructure, in order to benefit
the community in a way that respects
the dignity and independence of people
with disabilities.
