XBB variants evade antibodies and are more likely to persist in organs

75% of U.S. substantial or high transmission levels

Coinfections are more severe

Multiple respiratory viruses are circulating at very high levels.

#MitchMcConnell, #Republicans, #Biden, #Democrats.
XBB.1.5 is over 89% of cases in the U.S.

XBB.1.5 has spawned over 20 sub-variants, many of which have new advantages.

Mutations are occurring more often in the body of the virus.

It's likely to find a combo to further suppress the T-cell response soon.
It is horrible that more immunocompromised & elderly are getting infected & dying with protections lifted.

The more immunocompromised infected, the more rapid the pace of evolution.

The direction it's headed isn't likely to be less dangerous.

More will suffer from #LongCovid
EK.2 (XBB.1.5.13.2) is predominantly spreading in the U.S., with a 59% growth advantage over XBB.1.5. A concerning point about this variant is that it has another mutation added to the N-protein, likely impacting its interaction with T cells.
Ignoring it just gives the virus the advantage, and it will take every advantage we provide it.

The more often persistent infections occur, the more time and chances COVID will have to evolve around treatments and vaccines, making it harder for our immune systems to stop it.
COVID, Norovirus, Parainfluenza, Respiratory Adenovirus, Influenza, RSV, and others are all taking advantage of the weakened immune systems prior COVID infections leave in its wake.
The baseline of death, primarily from pneumonia right now, is incredibly high and increasing!

What are we doing about it?

Upgrading HVAC systems to eliminate 99% of pathogens and maintain CO2 at 600 ppm in schools and hospitals?
No, we aren't.

Time for Action is Now.

Why aren't we explaining that Rapid Antigen Tests have a high false negative rate? People have a false sense of security.

The U.S. response to the H5N1 bird flu threat is unacceptable. Its potential to circulate with COVID-19 could trigger a catastrophic pandemic, far surpassing COVID's impact alone.

Urgent action is needed to prevent human-to-human transmission before it's too late.

🧵 Cows Have Human and Bird Flu Receptors, Increasing the Odds of it Evolving to Infect Humans More Efficiently, Potentially Leading to Human-to-Human Transmission

Where did they find these receptors?
1/
A new (pre-print) study found that these receptors were present in the highest numbers in the mammary gland, but also in the respiratory tract, and cerebrum (brain) of both beef and dairy cows.

➡️ "and Beef Cows"- Why aren't we testing beef cows before crossing state lines?
2/
This suggests that not only are dairy cows susceptible, but also beef cows. Although these receptors were found in the highest concentrations in the tiny milk-producing sacs of the udder, called alveoli, they were also found in the respiratory tract and the brain. ⬅️

Antivirals Work to Clear Persistent COVID Infections in HIV Patients but Untreated Can Give Rise to New Variants

"People with advanced HIV may also experience prolonged infection that may give rise to new epidemiologically significant variants, but
1/
Initiation or resumption of antiretroviral therapy (ART) can effectively clear
persistent infection." ⬅️
(Oct 2023)

#LongCovid #COVIDnature.com/articles/s4142…
If this is true, then why aren't all Long COVID patients treated with antivirals to ensure viral clearance?

It's become quite clear that the immune system's response is to a persistent infection, often compounded by reactivated EBV or other reactivated viruses.

H5N1 and Ice Cream Safety

Most milk or cream for ice cream goes through the normal pasteurization process, which is 165 degrees for 15 seconds, which may indeed be safe, but we are still waiting on more studies that ensure its enough to kill H5N1. For example, the CDC is testing 297 more samples. We are still awaiting results.
1/
The higher temps of ultra pasteurization kill more viruses and bacteria, extending the shelf life a couple of months. That extended shelf life of the higher temp milk and ice cream shows that the lower temperature pasteurization leaves a lot of bacteria, shortening the shelf life. 2/
That bacteria is generally healthy for people, but could a virus also survive?

There are at least two brands that state they use the higher temps.

1. Blue Bell ice cream is likely the safest from H5N1. Their system heats their mix to 185 degrees for 25 seconds.

Children 5 -17 yrs: U.S.
↗️ COVID Hospitalizations

While other age groups are seeing a decline in hospitalizations, school-age children's hospitalization levels are back up to late December/early January levels.

Why is this happening?
Due to the transmission in classrooms and homes.

Although we don't see the exponential growth resume after winter break by looking at wastewater and hospitalization data that encompasses all ages, we do see it in the
air sampling & PCR testing studies, and this hospitalization data. After the initial decline from winter break, by mid-January, the hospitalizations started increasing again.

Together, they show us that COVID is spreading in schools and that it leads to preventable acute illness, #LongCOVID, and hospitalizations.

COVID is 3 x more likely to be the virus causing an illness in children than all the other respiratory viruses combined, according to a study published March 8, 2024.

When your child's doctor says it could be any virus and there is nothing we can do, like my child's doctor recently said, remind them that COVID causes significant long-term damage even when symptoms are mild in children.

Identifying each infection is very important in helping determine issues that may arise weeks or months after the initial infection period.
2/
Furthermore, sending children back to school while still infectious, as the CDC's updated isolation guidance suggests, will increase the rate of transmission, and put more children at risk of not only hospitalization but also the long-term damage associated with asymptomatic and mild infections.

The more children returning to school while still infectious, despite "improving symptoms," the greater the probability of multiple children being infectious in any one room.

The more infectious children, the faster the viral load builds up. The larger the amount of viral particles a child or their teacher are exposed to, the greater the odds of longer term damage and persistent infections, and the greater the amount of work the body has to do to fight it off. That translates to more sick days for children, teachers, and parents.

🚨Breaking News: Sapporo, Japan, with a population of nearly 2 million people, sees record high wastewater prevalence, increasing for 4 consecutive weeks.

Sapporo is a city located on the west coast of Hokkaido, which is the northernmost of Japan's islands. Sapporo gained global recognition in 1972 as the first city in Asia to host the Winter Olympics.

In prior years, cases were declining to some of the lowest levels at the end of February, making this anomaly much more alarming.

H/T: @ejustin46, @RrenzokutaiImage
Similarly, many places in the U.S. are seeing this happening.

"COVID Update: Uncharted Territory: Exploring the Surge of Infections Beyond Seasonal Norms and the Failure of the CDC's Vaccine Focused Approach"

This shows how badly world governments and public health agencies have underestimated COVID-19. They failed to put in place ventilation, air filtration and other mitigation measures to effectively prevent airborne transmission. It also shows how COVID continues to evolve to evade our immune system. (In case you haven't realized it yet, herd immunity theory failed)

If people don't wake up, we are going to destroy our childrens health, and our society is going to degrade as health and brain function degrade.

We must work Together Against COVID Transmission.

To make matters worse, we have another immune system targeting and weakening virus gaining more traction. Another virus that can persist for weeks, months or years in people. Another virus that can cause neurological damage, infecting the brain and central nervous system. That virus is measles.

Measles cases in 2024
"As of February 22, 2024, a total of 35 measles cases were reported by 15 jurisdictions: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York City, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington." In all of 2023, there were 58 cases. We are quickly approaching that and it's still the end of February.
