"With great sadness we received the news that Balkh Governor Alhaji Mullah Mohammad Daud Muzamal was martyred in an explosion by the enemies of Islam.
An investigation into the incident is underway."

There are several other Taliban casualties too in today's suicide bombing in Balkh that killed Taliban governor Dawood Muzamil. There was a Taliban delegation from Kabul that was also present at the site when the attack took place. Several members of this delegation also hit.
In the past, Dawood Muzamil served as the Taliban shadow governor for Farah, Uruzgan and as deputy shadow governor for Helmand. He spent a lot of time as a Taliban military commander on the battlefield. He's also believed to have maintained close links with Iranian intelligence.
Hailing from Gereshk district of Helmand province, Dawood Muzamil belonged to the Noorzai tribe. He climbed Taliban ranks while fighting against British forces in Helmand in 2003-04. He had also fought against ISKP in eastern Afghanistan.

The most likely culprit responsible for today's assassination of Taliban governor for Balkh province Dawood Muzamil is ISKP, which just broke a long silence yesterday. Usually when ISKP is silent, it comes back with a big bang.
