More from #Taiwan's @MOFA_Taiwan on the decision to sever ties with #Honduras: Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said Honduras' request for assistance from Taiwan included funding hospitals, reservoirs and repayment of Honduras' debt. cna.com.tw/news/aipl/2023…
Wu said all three projects totaled US$2.45 billion and it "felt like a request for money rather than hospitals."
Wu pointed out that China's inducements to Honduras have never stopped, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy are aware of the relevant information and have been handling it carefully.
He said although #Taiwan, out of its traditional friendship, has offered assistance within its capacity and with the utmost sincerity, Honduras still made arbitrary demands and even publicly released misinformation, causing harm to the Taiwanese government.
Wu added that all the details of Honduras' request to #Taiwan have records so there won't be any mistakes or misunderstandings.
Wu explained that Taiwan's approach to assisting other countries is project-oriented, including assistance in construction, equipment procurement, and post-operation. He said #Taiwan won't directly give 90 million US dollars for the local country to build projects by itself.
Wu used Guatemala as an example, saying that there is also a hospital built with the help of Taiwan and it was built "very well." He said the Guatemalan government is thankful for Taiwan's support.
He said if a country is only asking money from #Taiwan but are not looking to execute it through collaborative projects, then it's not in Taiwan's interests to pursue these requests.

"An investigation by The Associated Press has found that #China and its U.S.-based advocates spent years building relationships with Utah’s officials and lawmakers." apnews.com/article/china-…
"Those efforts have paid dividends at home and abroad, the AP found: Lawmakers delayed legislation Beijing didn’t like, nixed resolutions that conveyed displeasure with its actions and expressed support in ways that enhanced the Chinese government’s image."
Beijing’s success in Utah shows “how pervasive and persistent China has been in trying to influence America,” said Frank Montoya Jr., a retired FBI counterintelligence agent who lives in Utah.

She highlighted the importance of #Taiwan being mentioned in the Czech Republic's Indo-Pacific strategy for the first time and she said she hopes Europe sees through her trip that interacting with Taiwan is beneficial.

My latest: Three decades after #China enshrined the goal of a "socialist market economy" in its constitution, the era of "reform and opening up" appears to have ended, say experts. With insights from @dtiffroberts, @GolleyJane and @acollier. dw.com/en/chinas-soci…
On March 29, 1993, China formally amended its constitution and adopted the "socialist market economy" as the country's economic system.
It laid the foundation for the "development of the socialist rule of law," and by incorporating the concept into the constitution, shaped the direction of China's economic development, according to the People's Daily.
Activists urge #China to protect hundreds of thousands of North Korean women and girls that fled into Chinese territory. Many of the refugees are reportedly being trafficked, raped, and forced into sexual slavery. dw.com/en/north-korea…
Around half a million female North Koreans, some as young as 12, are hiding in border regions of China, according to a new report by an international human rights law firm Global Rights Compliance.
Global Rights Compliance found over 4,340 documented cases of human trafficking of North Korean women from China in the last decade and at least 80,000 reported abuses of human rights.
