1/ At the end of the first quarter of 2023, I’m proud of the action we have taken to:
➡️halve inflation
➡️grow the economy
➡️reduce debt
➡️cut waiting lists
➡️stop the boats
This is our focus. Just this week we’ve...
2/....set out our plan to tackle anti-social behaviour.
I was in Chelmsford on Monday talking to police officers about how the plan will clamp down on offenders and make sure they are swiftly punished – so we can restore pride in the places we call home.
3/ Yesterday we launched our plan to power Britain, from Britain.
We’ve seen the terrible cost of global energy disruption, which is why investing in energy sources here at home is so important.
It won't just drive down prices, but will also create jobs and grow the economy.
4/ In the early hours of this morning we struck the biggest trade deal since Brexit as the UK joins the #CPTPP, a vast free trade area spanning the Indo-Pacific.
I’d like to thank @KemiBadenoch and our trade negotiators for securing this win for British business & growth.
5/ And last (but not least) we're taking action on potholes 🕳️
Under the new regulations coming into force tomorrow utility companies will have to resurface roads to the best possible standard once they have completed their work.
Great news for road users 🚘🚴🚶♀️

1/ We have just agreed the biggest trade deal since Brexit.
Joining 11 other countries in the Indo-Pacific, it’s set to boost the UK economy by £1.8bn.
Here’s how the CPTPP will deliver on our pledge to grow the economy 🧵
2/ These countries are home to 500 million people and are worth 12% of global GDP
By cutting trade barriers and increasing our market access, this deal is set to increase UK wages by £800 million compared to 2019 levels as a result.
3/ From accounting to insurance, the UK is the second largest services provider in the world.
This deal will slash red tape for UK service providers by allowing them to operate on a par with local firms – boosting a sector which employs more than 80% of the UK workforce.
1) Today I am introducing new measures to deliver on our promise to tackle illegal immigration.
We are announcing a new deal with Albania to speed up the return of Albanian asylum seekers, who make up a third of those arriving to the UK by small boats.
2/ We are introducing a new, dedicated and unified Small Boats Command Centre to step up how we police the channel.
This will bring together our military and civilian capabilities in a coordinated response to intelligence, channel boat crossing, processing and enforcement.
3/ We’re doubling funding for the National Crime Agency to tackle immigration crime in Europe.
We’re also adding 200 new staff to step up our immigration enforcement. These extra resources in turn will allow us to increase raids on illegal working by 50%.
1/ China and the Chinese Communist Party represent the largest threat to Britain and the world’s security and prosperity this century.
Read this thread👇on how I will face down China.
2/ I would close all 30 of China’s Confucius Institutes in the UK - the highest number in the world.
Almost all UK government spending on Mandarin language teaching at school is channelled through university-based Confucius Institutes, thereby promoting Chinese soft power.
3/ I will build a new international alliance of free nations to tackle Chinese cyber-threats and share best practice in technology security.
1/ The energy regulator OFGEM has announced that the energy price cap will rise in April.
Without action this would be very tough for millions of families.
So we're going to step in and directly help people manage those extra costs with a £350 Energy Bills Rebate.
Explainer 👇
2/ The first part of the rebate spreads the extra costs of this year’s energy price shock.
In October all domestic electricity customers will receive a £200 discount on their bills.
People will then have five years to repay that discount in equal instalments of £40 a year.
3/ We'll provide more help to those who need it most by discounting Council Tax bills by £150 in April.
People on middle incomes are struggling right now, too so we're providing the council tax discount to households in Bands A to D - around 80% of all homes in England.
1/ A lot of people are concerned about fraud in our Covid support measures and they’re absolutely right to be.
No, I’m not ignoring it, and I'm definitely not ‘writing it off’ 👇
2/ Clearly criminals have sought to exploit our support schemes.
We’re going to do everything we can to get that money back and go after those who took advantage of the pandemic.
3/ We've invested over £100m in a Taxpayer Protection Taskforce with 1,265 staff to combat fraud. That's one of the largest and quickest responses to a fraud risk by @HMRCgovuk ever.
13,000 one-to-one enquiries were opened in 2020/21 and HMRC wrote to 75,000 people.
