🫰 New Government data reveals there are currently more than 330 competitive funding streams for local authorities, with a third worth less than £1 million.

📈 While £1 in every £4 of grant funding has been allocated by competition over the last four years.

💸 Meanwhile, between £27m and £67m has been spent by local authorities preparing competitive bids since 2019.

⛔ That's money that can't be spent on delivery.
🌱 This issue is particularly acute when it comes to supporting #LocalNetZero — where collaboration (not competition) is more important than ever.

📄 It's why @CSkidmoreUK's #MissionZero #NetZeroStrategy review supported UK100's call to simplify of #LocalNetZero funding.
💚 And why we were pleased to see it get a mention in the Government's #GreenDay announcements.

👀 The promise to "explore simplification" is what all local leaders want to hear. But, beyond warm words, what they want to see is that put into action — and urgently.

We welcome the new report by @GreenAllianceUK calling for a new green skills programme to reach Net Zero.

Local authorities are key to delivering a place-based transition to Net Zero which brings economic opportunities for communities across the country.

edie.net/news/11/Report…
The report highlights case studies including @greatermcr which funded the Low Carbon Academy to train and upskill 1,140 people to retrofit homes.

It will also deliver a 16-week course to train over 200 people who are unemployed or changing career in retrofitting skills. 🏘️
Another case study is the partnership between @MayorofLondon and @SolarEnergyUK_ to run a project to upgrade the solar supply chain in London.

The project, aimed at career switchers and school leavers, will provide training and apprenticeship schemes in solar businesses. ☀️

As the Chancellor announces the #Budget, he'll draw attention to pandemic financial support.

But we will also be watching out for further details of the #NationalInfrastructureBank (NIB). (1)
The NIB has the potential to be a key enabler of #NetZero, but this depends on the design of its green mandate.

Our research w/ @SiemensUKNews shows it must be place based, have an advisory capacity and provide development capital. (2)
.@theCCCuk recommends #NetZero policies should be designed to enable local financing.

But local government currently lacks the capacity, tools and development capital to build a pipeline of Net Zero infrastructure projects. (3)
