🧵Males in women's cycling - master thread🧵

"This is a tiny group of people. It's not an issue. It hardly affects anyone."

Every woman and girl at every level of competition deserves the right to race in a category free of male advantage.

Jillian Bearden (Jonathan)

Former mediocre male racer who quickly had success after transitioning to the female category. Raced with the pro women at the Colorado Classic. Masters national champion. Colorado state Champion. ImageImage
Austin Killips

Went from never having raced bikes to racing at the elite level in women's road and cyclocross in just a few years. 3rd at the US National Cyclocross Championships in the women's elite. Raced @UCI_CX World Cup in Europe. ImageImageImageImage
Molly Cameron

Raced for many years against males at the elite level while IDing as trans. No one cared. Now that independent, high-profile gravel races allow self-ID, Molly competes in those races against women. ImageImage
Jenna Lingwood (James)

Women’s masters 40+ national cyclocross champion. 5th place in the 2022 women's elite national cyclocross championships. Lingwood raced for many years with males. Unsurprisingly, Lingwood has better results racing against females. ImageImageImage
Tara Seplavy (Todd)

Mediocre racer as a male and slightly less mediocre racer as a female. Cycling journalist for Bicycling magazine. Angry and outspoken bully who wants to take down anyone who argues for the rights of biological women. ImageImageImageImage
Sara Stearns (Robert)

Masters 70+ national and world track champion. Masters world record holder. Posts long-winded accounts of all the hard training it takes to succeed (as a male racing against women). Also happy to be recognized as one of the rare women in the aviation field. ImageImageImageImage
Tiffany Thomas (Trent)

46 year old domestic pro racer for team LA Sweat. Started cycling on a Peloton bike at age 40 after getting winded walking up some stairs. Discovered he's "really good at it" after doing some beginner women's races. ImageImageImageImage
Evelyn Williamson

One of two males who raced for elite women's team Pratt Racing. Always looks very "pro" on the podium. ImageImageImage
Kristin Sundquist (Christian)

Raced in the nonbinary category at cyclocross nationals only because of stricter @UCI_cycling rules for trans athletes. (Claims to have a T level of .02nmol/l?) Was cat 2 in male cyclocross competition. ImageImageImageImage
Zahava Barwin (Zack)

Races mountain bike and cyclocross in Canada. ImageImageImageImage
Jacqueline Maunter (Jacob)

Races cyclocross for the Philly Bike Expo team (apparently remaining in the cat 4/5s since 2017, despite wins and podiums). Proud recipient of a Women Build Bikes grant. ImageImage
Tessa Johnson (Michael)

Raced cx and road at Clemson University. Raced in the women's cat 4/5's in 2022 (beginner) for Comrade Cycles and dominated the 2022 season in Chicago. ImageImageImageImage
Blake Hansen

Races mountain bikes. Has been featured by numerous publications as a "rider to watch" who is "breaking barriers" in mountain biking. ImageImage
Roxy Bombardier (Roger)

Races cyclocross and gravel ImageImageImage
Kenzie Statz (Kenneth)

Races road and mountain bike ImageImage
Citlaly Carapia

Races road and mountain bike in Mexico ImageImage
Kate Weatherly (Anton)

Races mountain bike in New Zealand. Was mediocre when racing against men, now races against elite females. National champion. ImageImage
Ruth Seaman (Jeffrey)

Races road. Proud to have set a women's course record at the Pace Bend Ultra 12 Hour race at the age of 55. ImageImage
Lesley Mumford (Wesley)

Races gravel and mountain bike. Preaches on social media about how dedication and training are what lead to podiums and opportunities for this self-described "mid-40's mom." ImageImage
Lilly Chant (Joseph)

Races road and track in the UK. ImageImage
Emily Bridges (Zach)

Was an elite junior male racer. Welcomed by male peers after transitioning. Feels victimized by British Cycling's crackdown on males wanting to race against women. Still races against women in races which are not sanctioned by British Cycling. ImageImage
Sandy Hosey (Vincent)

Races road and cyclocross ImageImage
Taryn Askew

Competes in bmx ImageImage
Jordan Johnson

Races road and cyclocross for Ride or Die Collective. ImageImage
Morgan Styer

Raced road and cyclocross through 2017. Was a midpack cat 4/5 male who became a successful cat 3 female ten years later. ImageImage
Evelyn Sifton

Road and track racer for Shadow Elite women's cycling team. ImageImage
Ana Sofia Zarate Vera (aka Sofia Zarate)

Races road for Team Drang by Olympica in Mexico. Has many wins and podiums. ImageImage

When I post about men racing in the women's category, I often get questions along the lines of, "How did he do in the men's category?"

I'm going to start posting some comparisons.

Today let's look at Henry Lin (📷left) vs "Eva" Lin (📷right)

🧵👇 Image
Image
Here are Henry Lin's road racing results from road-results.com

Looks like Lin started racing in college at @SJSU. He got one road podium and otherwise mid- to back-of-the-pack results. (These are reasonable results for a beginner and nothing to feel bad about.)

Btw DNP stands for "Did Not Place." Depending on the type of race and size of the field, sometimes officials only give placements to a certain number of riders.Image
Here are Henry Lin's results after switching to the women's category and racing as "Eva Lin."

Looks like he started winning after switching categories.

I wonder why that is. 🤔🤷‍♀️ Image

🏆 With the year coming to a close, it's time to celebrate some of the transwomen (also known as "men") who have won in women's cycling in 2024.

These males are an oppressed minority, yet they're brave enough to show up to women's bike races and WIN.

🧵👇 Image
Image
Arya Elowen, formerly known as Michael Pillman, took some women's cat 4 wins in Colorado. He even took the women's cat 4 crit championship title!

I wonder why this talented athlete never won during his years of racing in the men's 4s. Image
Kylie (Kyle) Small is no stranger to the top women's podium step. Here he is at the Littleton Twilight Crit and the Maverick Classic.

(The top podium step was considerably more elusive when he was racing against fellow males.) Image

💫Did you know that today, Nov 21, is the Day Of Remembering That Men Are Still Racing In The @usacycling Women's Category?💫

Such a special day!

Today we recall the racers who will never be female but who are allowed to race in USAC's women's fields anyway for some reason.🧵👇 Image
Image
Here's Kylie (Kyle) Small racing (and winning) a women's singlespeed cyclocross national championship.

This is not how you grow the women's field, @usacycling. "Kylie" will never be a woman. Image
Here's Lesley (Wesley) Mumford on the top podium step of a @usacycling women's cat 3 cyclocross race.

Even if Mumford eventually makes it to cat 2 and has to report his testosterone levels, he still will never be a woman. Image

A large number of my tweets have been removed in the EU for defamation/insult. 🇪🇺

This has made me deeply consider my ways. I have now realized that trans women are women!

🧵I would like to set things right with a thread of brave trans women racing bikes as their true selves!

Jenna Lingwood has had tons of wins in road and cyclocross over the past several years. She even has a national championship title. She's so strong!

Abigail Francis races for Colorado State University. She's showing the world that trans women can be on collegiate women's cycling teams. Amazing!

I keep seeing:

"It's not happening."
"It's fake culture war stuff."
"The far right made it up."
"There are about 19 total of them competing across all sports."

🧵Here's a thread of males CURRENTLY competing in ONE sport: women's cycling. 👇
Image
Image
Kylie (Kyle) Small is the current women's singlespeed cyclocross US national champion. He recently took women's podiums for Fort Lewis College at the 2024 collegiate cycling nationals and was named a collegiate All-American.
Image
Image
Catherine (Nicholas) Barnwell has seen a lot of women's podiums recently in road and cyclocross.

As the year comes to a close, here's a thread of males who have won in women's cycling in 2023. 🏆

(Because "This never happens," and "I bet you can't even give me an example," and "How many people can this possibly affect?")
Image
Image
Here's Tiffany (Trent) Thomas on the top step at the Randall's Island Crit.

Tiffany is 47 and has a spot on the women's pro crit team LA Sweat. Image
Austin Killips is a name that no one would know if he had chosen to compete in his correct sex category, but he has made a name for himself racing against women.

Killips won the GC at Tour of the Gila riding for the Amy D. Foundation women's development team. Image
