You cannot trust everything you read on the internet!

I'll walk you through one of the recent GIGANTIC FAKE NEWS stories.

How it began? and what you can learn from it?

A thread 🧵
Governments, mainstream media outlets and other malevolent groups intentionally spread fake news to manipulate public opinion, create division, and promote their own agenda.

🚩They make clickbait headlines, sensational stories and news that seem too good or bad to be true...
Well, this massively set up story may not have a tragic intent behind it, and it surely does not have the same impact as other falsehoods.

But I chose to discuss it because it is an excellent illustration of how fake news can proliferate to a point where it's no longer doubtful
Since April 13,the news has widely circulated that Achraf Hakimi, the professional Moroccan footballer who plays for PSG, would have placed all of his wealth in the name of his mother.

According to rumor, Hakimi's ex-wife would have discovered this during the judge's hearing.
This Fake News was created in three stages:

1. This tale was created from scratch by the Ivorian Twitter account @FirstMagLeVrai , which has a reputation for constantly producing fake news 🚩.

2. It has been re-shared thousands of times, initially on Twitter and then on other platforms. Image
3. "SERIOUS" websites, such as Marca, Hespress, or Goal, publish this information on their websites and social media pages.

This has to be examined from a logical and, more importantly, legal standpoint.

Why couldn't this information be correct?

To put it simply,

There are two sorts of matrimonial regimes:
1. The regime of community reduced to acquests:

This is the legal regime (by default) of the majority of European nations, including France, Spain, Germany, and Italy, where Hakimi has spent the last 10 years.

If the couple adopted this marriage regime, ...
... it simply means that everything accumulated during the marriage by one of the spouses is divided in the case of divorce (bank accounts, real estate, etc.).
2. The regime of property separation:

Hakimi could have made a marriage contract stating that he'll be the sole beneficiary of the fortune and property in the event of divorce, but his wife would have been AWARE.

Because she would've signed the contract in front of a notary🤷‍♂️
And it would not be in Achraf's interest to put his fortune in the name of his mother.

UNLESS he wants to share it with the tax authorities.😬
but WHAT IF Hakimi chose to name everything in his mother's name? 🤔

There will be two possible scenarios here:
1. He would have done it before the divorce:

In this case,
His wife would have known

He would have had to pay up to 45% tax under the Gift tax regime (which is GIGANTIC given Hakimi's fortune).

2. He would have done so after the divorce petition was filed:

In this situation, he would face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of about 75,000 €. 😬
It's important to do your own research when you encounter news that seems suspicious.

Check the source, read multiple perspectives, and fact-check the claims.

And if you're not sure, don't share it. Remember, it's better to be safe than sorry😉
Don't let yourself be a pawn ♟️ in someone else's game.

The truth is out there, but it's up to you to find it.

Don't let your emotions, biases, or peer pressure cloud your judgment.

Be curious, critical, and open-minded, and never stop learning. Remember, knowledge is power.
That's a wrap 🙌!
