🧵The evacuation of embassies across Khartoum signals the international community's failure in #Sudan. While we pray for their safe departure, we also pray that when they return, they will dialogue humbly with Sudan's civil society leaders, not just warlords. #KeepEyesOnSudan

The U.S. & international community, including European nations, showed a failure of imagination by negotiating exclusively with SAF warlord Gen. Burhan🤏 and RSF warlord Hemedti🐍 instead of with Sudanese Resistance Committees, trade unions, intellectuals, young people & women.

We mourn the deaths of four Sudanese #humanitarian workers. Say their names:
* Siddig Abdalla Tahir, Osman Abdalla Ali & Yusuf Ibrahim of @WFP_Sudan, killed by RSF in Kabkabiya.
* Ahmed Othman Fadl, Director of @IOMSudan's office in Al-Fula, West Kordofan.👇

In addition, we remember that the RSF shot and wounded two @WFP_Sudan staff: #humanitarian workers Omar Abdalla and Yahya Ibrahim, as they sheltered in a SAF base which RSF overran one week ago on Saturday evening.

Sudanese national #humanitarian staff saving lives deserve equitable pay & benefits, including meaningful death benefits, healthcare insurance, hazard pay in conflict zones, and paid time off to visit their families. #KeepEyesOnSudan

Sudanese people will prevail in the struggle for peace, security, and a transition to #democracy led by civilians. They will remember who lifted up civil society leaders and who instead negotiated with & supported warlords like Burhan🤏 & Hemedti🐍 who lack command & control.

The evacuation of embassies in Khartoum signals that the U.S. & international community misread the growing crisis in Sudan & failed the Sudanese people. We owe it to Sudan to support the Resistance Committees, trade unions & other civil society leaders to clean up our mess.

The U.S. should apply targeted financial sanctions to Burhan🤏 & Hemedti🐍 & freeze the assets of companies they control as leverage to establish a ceasefire & secure #humanitarian corridors. The international community should negotiate with Sudanese civil society leaders.

When the international community returns to Sudan, we must come with a humble attitude, listen to the wisdom of the Sudanese streets & engage directly with diverse Sudanese civil society leaders instead of only lying, thieving, criminal warlords who violate #humanrights.
