"Are the GIFs for my game any good?..."

Is that you?

Here are 7 Steps to better game GIFs!
πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡

#gamedev #indiedev
Making GIFs quick is an integral part of being able to market your game well.

Video content in general helps a lot in selling your idea.

Not every content is equal.
What makes good content great?

1) Pick a goal for your content first
2) Choose the right tool
3) test & track
Unsure how to go about it?

In our Hero Journey we first think of the purpose!
(You can find the link in bio, if you are interested)

Once you know the purpose of your content you can start thinking about the animation to convey the goal.

This is what to look out for:
1. Keep it simple:

The best GIFs and videos are often the simplest. Keep your message clear and straightforward. Use simple graphics and fonts to avoid distracting your audience.
2. Fonts & UI:

Avoid large fonts looming into the picture or large UI when you are showing gameplay.
3. Eye-catching visuals:

- Bright,
- bold colors,
- high-quality graphics and images
- Make sure your visuals are in line with your brand identity.
- Higher saturated images and warm-colors tend to have a higher click-rate.
4. Keep it short:

Attention spans are short, especially when it comes to social media.
Keep your GIFs short and to the point.

You want to grab attention and then hold the attention of your potential players.
Start right with your hook.
5. Use humor:

Humor is a great way to make your content more engaging and memorable.
Use humor that is appropriate for your target audience and aligns with your brand identity.
6. Meme-able or Stream-able:

Make your GIFs interesting for people to share.
What would someone go like: "oh.. my best friend would like to see this!"

Tap into the desire of your player and why they should share what you created.
7. Optimize for social media:

When creating a GIF, make sure it is optimized for the social media platform you want to post to.
Keep the aspect ratio in mind, and make sure the file size is small enough to load quickly.
After you have done these 7 steps you can track your engagement!

Posting GIFs to your early-adopters can be a great way to validate your ideas directly.

Find answers to:
*Which GIFs are doing well and why?
Which aren’t and why?
Double down on the GIFs that do well.*
I hope this was helpful to you!

Inside of our Hero Journey we tell you everything we know about creating engaging GIFs quick!

We boost your storepage with just the right amount of visuals!

We have just streamlined our entire Patch Note process and made the systems available for the devs in our program.

I created these patch notes in less than 30 mins.

Here is an overview of how we do it.
So you can build your own system.
πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
First we have a few pre-written Patch Notes available for the devs in our program.

Some more detailed, some less.

Here you see one of our shortest Patch Note structures, you may use it, if you like. Image
With one click you create a draft for your template.

Helping you sort information quickly, so you have more time for things you really want to do.

You simply fill out the changes.

Feeling unproductive?

Your game takes forever to finish?

I listed you a few fun productivity principles in the thread below!

Here is what you will learn:

- 90/10 Rule
- 80/20 rule
- "One Thing"
- "Kaizen"
- "Eat That Frog"
- "SMART"
- "Five Whys"

Let's go!
✨90/10 rule:

Spend 90% of your time and resources on generating results.

Spend the remaining 10% on activities that help you improve and learn.

Applies to business, personal growth or game dev alike.

I'm looking for 5 qualified game devs who want to take their prototype from an early idea to secured funding in next 6 months.

Is this you?

Then πŸ‘‡
We are building this program called the "Hero Journey".

The idea is based on the narrative concept of "the Hero's Journey", where we want to help game devs grow and help them create awesome games.

Fight through obstacles together and ultimately make good games. Image
We only launched our program last December and we are still in a pilot phase.

Let's cut to the chase.

I am not going to bore you.

Instead, here are some behind-the-scenes results: ImageImageImageImage

You really only need 11 slides in your pitch deck.

Add a trailer and cover image for capturing attention.

Then you are at 13.

10 is a good number to reach.
15 is long.
If you have 20 it's a bad sign.

πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡Here is what you need in detail:
People you pitch to will typically tell you what slides they need and what they want to see.

When you do your due diligence and inform yourself a little about them or write an email you usually get good responses.

Publishers and investors sometimes have different expectations
These are the key slides you may need:

1. Problem
2. Solution
3. Product
4. Market Size
5. Business Model
6. Underlying Magic
7. Competition
8. Better/Different
9. Marketing Plan
10. Team Slide
11. Traction / Milestones

You can even go as low as 6 pages, if asked.

Here are 5 steps when outlining your SOPs for your game development:

1. Clarify the purpose and the audience (coder, artist, etc..)
2. Research
3. Outline
4. Draft and revise
5. Proofread

No clue what an SOP is?
Read on πŸ‘‡πŸ§΅
An SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) is a written document that outlines the steps involved in a specific process, with the purpose of providing clear and consistent instructions to ensure that the process is executed in a consistent and efficient manner.
This week I have been busy writing SOPs for Gentleland.

Start in building your internal wiki early, otherwise you run into the problem I am running into now.
