Here's the full #ASMIRT2023 program, and bios of the key speakers conference.asmirt.org/2023/program/ Image
A big focus of #ASMIRT2023 is patient-centred care: the plenary sessions will kick off tomorrow with The Patient Doctor @benbravery -- see our preview, incl research/calls to action from UK keynote speaker @EmmaHydeTeach croakey.org/your-everyday-…
Leading Canadian educator/researcher @AmandaBoldersto will also present a number of #ASMIRT2023 sessions, incl: Coming out or staying in? Navigating diverse sexual and gender identities at work & on the founding of @QueeringCancer croakey.org/improving-canc…
We'll also be reporting on the challenges and opportunities for medical radiation sciences, all on the agenda at #ASMIRT2023, incl workforce pressures (& shortages), AI, the need for greater research, advanced practice, & more: bookmark our stories here croakey.org/category/croak…
We heard from @hilderbillies that #ASMIRT2023 is taking place amid "a perfect storm": increasing demand, growing waiting times, the need for more complex imaging, calls for a new stream of research, scope of practice issues, and worries about recruitment and retention.
#ASMIRT2023 will close on Sunday with a session asking: What does the future & the future practitioner look like in medical radiation sciences? Featuring heavyhitters: @CMalamateniou @MYradres @DrGeoffCurrie @CarolineAnneWr2 Image
#ASMIRT2023 has kicked off today with a series of workshops, on issues such as AI, evidence-based practice & more - see the full program Image
. @EmmaHydeTeach is delivering an #ASMIRT2023 workshop today on 'Embedding person centred care in everyday practice' - read about her work in our preview croakey.org/your-everyday-…

Any missing? Image
FYI @AlisonSBarrett & @mariemcinerney will be livetweeting #ASMIRT2023's Opening Session tomorrow (Friday) via livestream, featuring @benbravery & an important panel session on research & the profession, led by @MYradres Image
We will be covering the rest of #ASMIRT2023 remotely, thanks to many presenters who have shared their work, thoughts, and presentations with us - so if you're there, please tweet away and ping us with your pix, feedback, insights etc cc @WePublicHealth
Ahead of main sessions at #ASMIRT2023, and noting are many medical radiation science fields involved, you might want to listen to "The World of Hospital Radiography" by Tarni Nelson - TW #trauma #burnout - intro alone has many insights podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tarni…
#ASMIRT2023 also has a series of site visits today including to @ANSTO (which this month marked its 70th birthday ansto.gov.au/news/on-day-70…)
. @johnhewis is the seemingly unflappable #ASMIRT2023 conference convenor - in all places at all times
Today @johnhewis & Tarni Nelson presided over #ASMIRT2023's Radiography Escape Room Image
Are many presentations that we're looking forward to covering at #ASMIRT2023, incl v catchy/intriguing title from @lucindamorris23

A thread now to catch up on discussions around artificial intelligence (AI) - a hot topic everywhere, including at #ASMIRT2023.

See some of the issues raised in our 'future of medical radiation sciences' Q&A piece

Interestingly, @theage @smh have run a piece this weekend by @angusthomson_: 'A new breed of AI is changing healthcare. But it comes with a warning '

($ paywall) #ASMIRT2023
theage.com.au/national/a-new…
It quotes an Aust study of safety events involving AI-assisted tech (reported to @US_FDA) by @AIHI_MQ led by @EnricoCoiera @David_Lyell @YingWang_CHI @FarahMagrabi who warn "we just need to be taking the safety of these systems really seriously"

Gary Denham is a radiographer at @HNEHealth, with a number of presentations for #ASMIRT2023, incl (related to Edel Doyle previously): Beyond the skeletal survey: how modern neuroimaging is revealing the effects of childhood maltreatment
Denham says it's well established that childhood maltreatment/abuse is detrimental to mental health & a major risk factor for most psychiatric disorders. Can also lead to a range of behavioural problems & alter the structure/function of the developing brain #ASMIRT2023
Child maltreatment/abuse is also associated with impairments to IQ, academic achievement, working memory, emotional regulation and inhibitory control - Denham #ASMIRT2023

Interesting session coming up now #ASMIRT2023: Champions of Change, to be closed with a panel discussion on patient centred care Image
And just as interesting in the other plenary on application of AI (artificial intelligence), which will also end in a panel discussion - ft @DrKEHawk @DrEMRohren, Phillip Chlap, moderated by @DrGeoffCurrie #ASMIRT2023 Image
Just noting, @AlisonSBarrett and I (@mariemcinerney) are covering #ASMIRT2023 remotely: tweeting from presentations, interviews etc, not live in the room. We are v grateful for the generosity of speakers who have shared their work with us.

Catching up re earlier #ASMIRT2023 session from @CMalamateniou on: Artificial Intelligence is changing
radiography: What should we do? (Pic: ASMIRT) Image
"AI is just another tool we need to use effectively & responsibly to solve real clinical problems; radiographers are frontrunners in this race, together with all other profs working in medical imaging, radiotherapy & nuclear medicine." @CMalamateniou told Croakey #ASMIRT2023
"AI is only as clever & equitable as the data we feed it with; because of the way it works, it has massive scalability & the potential to revolutionise medicine and radiography; it can also create massive problems if we fail to use it right." @CMalamateniou #ASMIRT2023
