Regulatory filings (accessed by Peter Doshi) show Pfizer had evidence, early into the vaccination campaign, that vaccine efficacy waned, but waited months before alerting the public.

“It’s clear from the documents that these analyses were almost 4 months old by the time they became public,” said Doshi

In that 4-month delay, ~90 million Americans queued to get vaccinated, unaware that data were already in hand, hinting that two doses may not be the final ask.

Then director of FDA's office of vaccines, Marion Gruber, evidently felt pressured to speed up the approval of Pfizer's vaccine, saying her staff could not compress the deadline any further, fearing it would compromise the integrity of the process & trust in the vaccine.

In the statement, Karla Soares-Weiser, Editor-in-Chief of the Cochrane Library said that commentators had made “inaccurate and misleading” claims about the study and that wording in the summary of the review “was open to misinterpretation, for which we apologize.”

“It was upsetting,” said Jefferson (lead author of the review). “Cochrane has thrown its own researchers under the bus again. The apology issued by Cochrane is from Soares-Weiser, *not* from the authors of the review.”

The world was dealing with a novel vaccine technology, tested under ‘warp speed’ conditions, and no long-term safety data to speak of.

Pregnant/lactating women were excluded from the original mRNA phase 3 clinical trials so any recommendation to vaccinate them was a gamble.

In Feb 2021, Pfizer began a trial examine the safety & efficacy of its mRNA vaccine in pregnant women and their newborns.

It was originally intended to enroll 4,000 women, but enrollment stopped in late 2021 with just 349 participants.

By now, all women would have given birth.

This review comes off the back of 3yrs of governments mandating the use of face masks in the community, schools & hospital settings. Just last month, the WHO upgraded its guidelines advising “anyone in a crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated space” to wear a mask.

Jefferson says "governments completely failed to do the right thing and demand better evidence. At the beginning of the pandemic, there were some voices who said masks did not work and then suddenly the narrative changed."
