I'm outside of the courtroom. Currently, a few dozen community members are lined up outside of the courtroom waiting to be let in. Extra security has also arrived.

@KOAA The council is reviewing jury instructions right now. There’s been discussion about a request for instruction on evidence that wasn’t actually presented. From what I’m understanding, I believe this is about the discussed jail visit for Stauch during the beginning of the pandemic.

@KOAA Defense attorney’s filed a motion to drop all the charges against Letecia Stauch, but specifically first-degree murder premeditation. Her lawyer, Josh Tolini, said there’s been a lack of evidence that the murder was premeditated by Stauch.
@KOAA District Attorney Michael Allen said there’s been more than enough evidence of premeditation, including the searches found on Stauch’s phone before Gannon's disappearance, like searching for a one bedroom/one bath apartment in Florida, and employment opportunities elsewhere.

The murder trial for Letecia Stauch is resuming now. She’s the El Paso County woman accused of murdering her stepson Gannon in January 2020, and then dumping his body in a suitcase in Florida. I’ll be bringing you updates throughout the day.
The morning began with learning that the defense’s forensic psychologist met with Letecia Stauch at the jail for about three hours yesterday. One prosecutor said, “I’m at a loss,” because he doesn’t know what was discussed.
He said he wants to meet with the defense's forensic psychologist before she testifies so he has the ability to cross examine her.

The first witness to be called to the stand this morning is Dr. Jackie Grimmett. She worked as a forensic psychologist at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo in 2020. Dr. Grimmett conducted a competency evaluation on Letecia Stauch in December 2020.
Dr. Grimmett said she met with Letecia Stauch for about 3 hours and 40 minutes. This was a court-ordered competency evaluation requested by the defense.
