Udai Singh was born in 1522. He had 3 elder brothers. One of them Vikramaditya by 1536 was sent to palace arrest by the nobles due to his arrogance, incompetence and vile temper
The nobles invited Banvir the illicit son of Prithviraj (Rana Sanga's uncle) as regent of Udai. (2/6)

Taking advantage of Vikramaditya's Banvir killed and then he wanted to kill Udai Singh and become king of Mewar
Panna Dhai was a widow and she had a son called Chandan near the same age of Udai Singh
She got to know of Balvir coming with a sword in hand to kill Udai Singh. (3/6)

Both Udai Singh and Chandan were sleeping deeply. She instructed loyal servants to hide Udai Singh in a large basket filled with flowers and take him away from Balvir.
She then took her own son Chandan and placed him in the prince's bed. She chose Mewar over her only son. (4/6)

Banvir murdered Chandan with his sword and informed the gathered chiefs in court that both Vikramaditya & Udai Singh were dead. He then proclaimed himself as king.
Without betraying a single emotion outside Dhai Panna left Mewar and arrived with Udai Singh in Kumbhalgarh. (5/6)

Four years passed in Kumbhalgarh under the shelter of the local governor. In 1540 when Udai Singh was ready to defeat Banvir she contacted chieftains of Mewar and told them the full story.
