With the horrible air quality from #ABWildfire I’ve put some MERV13 rated furnace filters in my windows so we can get clean, cool air in the house. It filters pollution out of the air as it blows into the house. Filtrete1900’s are MERV13. #yeg#yyc
To fill the large gap on top I cut a piece of cardboard and duct taped it to the filter. Used some peel & stick weather stripping along the edges of the filter & cardboard. So it’s easy to take in and out.
I’ve also got #corsirosenthalbox and HEPA filters running inside the house. I’ve made a variety of types over the years using different fans & filters. Lots of size and noise options.
Updates: when it is really smoky out one pass through an air filter isn’t enough. You’ll need layers. Put more air cleaners near the window. Or close off the room with the window filter and stick air cleaners in then open door when air cleaned.
Take out the window filter when it rains bc a wet filter is ruined. It looks fine but doesn’t work well anymore. Lesson learned the hard way 🫤
To get more air flow through the window filter add a fan. It can be on the inside blowing in or in another window blowing out. Here is an example. Mark has an upstairs window blowing out to get rid of hot air. Filters in the patio door on main floor.
You can use a flexible dryer duct and put in the window (like a portable air conditioner has). Then connect it into a DIY air cleaner. Then you don’t need to worry about rain ruining the filter. Excellent example:
I made a little air purifier with a USB plug so it can be used in the car. About a foot tall.
Could also portable if plugged into a battery pack.
Good for #wildfiresmoke and cov1d.
Very easy to make, here's how it did it /1

I bought a 14cm Noctua fan that comes with a USB plug and a regular plug. No wiring required!
Noctua NF-A14 5V, Premium Quiet Fan with USB Power Adaptor Cable, 3-Pin, 5V Version (140mm, Brown).
$28 on Amazon in Canada. This fan is basically silent! /2 noctua.at/en/products/fa…
Filter: A cylinder shaped HEPA filter. About 10" by 7" with a 6" opening on the inside. The bottom is closed. I think it was Noma brand that is a replacement filter for one of their units. Any will do, just look for a diameter that generally matches the fan. Maybe about $50? /3
Workers got cancer from second hand smoke in their workplaces. It took decades for gov regulations to protect workers. COVID spreads in the air just like cigarette smoke. It's currently making workers sick. What will the death toll be? What is it already🧵
Heather Crowe was a waitress for 40 years, she was the first in ON to win compensation for occupational exposure to cigarette smoke. It still killed her. But it did spark change. What about COVID19 exposure of workers rn?
Like many workers in the service industry, she had a low income, was a single mother, and worked 60 hours a week. The risks of second-hand smoke were known then but there were no protections for workers like her. The similarities to our current COVID-19 situation are striking.
Yesterday a girl in my teen's class was rushed to hospital. This is REAL, common & serious long-term illness after COVID.

Many people who had minor covid symptoms - like a cold - get better but then mysteriously get fatigue, brain fog, easily winded, heart races. These can start soon or later after having covid.
Note: My teen's classmate isn't the one in the news article above #LongCovidKids

Many doctors aren't even aware and kids are left with no support or don't even know it is a real condition that was caused by "that little covid cold" they had a while ago.
We can't let this continue. Kids need help! People need to know that getting covid isn't just a cold
My teen has had COVID for 6 days and the rest of the family is still negative. Here’s what we are doing to limit spread at home 🧵 N95 masks, air filters, open windows, a plan, and understanding that #COVIDisAirborne 1/11
Covid spreads in the air like smoke so we plan to avoid shared air. Even if the infected person has left the room, the germs are still floating around. Cleaning the air with air purifiers, opening windows to get fresh air, wearing masks to reduce germs put into air and into body.
Masks: we all wear N95 masks except in our own room. KF94 and KN95 masks also good and kid sizes are available. Experts have found these types can be reused for 30+ hours. A mask is less than $2 each. Shop carefully, avoid fakes 3/11
