🧵37.5% increase in corporate tax, UCP? This is the hill you want to die on? Let's see.

8% of $1,000 is $80
37.5% of $80 is $30 extra for every $1,000

Meanwhile, corporations have been raking in huge profits.

Yeah, corporations will be fine. (1/)

The UCP wants you to think businesses will end up paying some sort of exorbitant amount, so they use a bigger percentage number because that suits their interests.

But if you break down the math and you look at it logically, it's not all that bad. (2/)
I can think of a way already to help businesses make up for this: How about not allowing electricity companies to use economic withholding to jack up electricity prices? More money in your pocket = more money to spend AT A BUSINESS. (3/)
Or how about insurance rate caps to prevent insurance companies from screwing you when it's time to pay up? More money in your pocket = more money to spend AT A BUSINESS. (4/)
Or how about limiting tuition increases for struggling students so they don't have to choose between paying tuition, rent, and groceries? More money in their pocket = more money to spend ON GROCERIES. (5/)
The UCP wants to make a mountain out of a mole hill when they've already put the conditions in place for you to get fleeced every which way. They've got you cornered in every single market where essentials are at play. (6/)
And yes, $1,000 is a tiny, tiny amount of money in the whole scheme of things, but compared to everything else the UCP has literally screwed you with, I'd happily trade everything I just listed for a corporate tax increase, and so should you. (7/)
This corporate tax increase is so easily defendable because of miserable UCP policy that has come your way over the last four years.

So, if this is the hill you want to die on, UCP, bring it. Because there's a lot of shit you've done to make all of us feel the pain. (8/end)

🧵Here's how @jasonluan88 is lying to his constituents: He goes to bat saying that a K-9 school in Nolan Hill was approved. Okay, cool. But he never specified CCSD or CBE. Because students attend both divisions. ⬇️ (1/)

Now, Jason was right that a school did get fully funded in Nolan Hill. But Jason wasn't clear as to whether the school would be a CCSD school or a CBE school. So I did a simple Google search and found this ⬇️. This matters because there are parents that send kids to CBE too. (2/) Image
So, while Jason is up to bat saying "Hey we got a school funded!! Look at us go!" CBE parents see no solution in sight for the Nolan Hill area, and none in sight as evidenced on the Alberta Major Projects site ⬅️ and the CBE school map ➡️. (3/) ImageImage

🧵Put yourself in the position of someone who was forced to evacuate yesterday. Your life was just turned upside down, you're sitting in the passenger seat of your car, and you check social media. (1/8)

You figure, you're driving to an evacuation center, might as well let people know you're okay while you're on your way. First thing you see though is Dani on the podium at a Calgary UCP fundraiser. Then you scroll further to see the buffet and UCP branded ice sculpture. (2/8)
Then you look in your own rear view window and the orange smoky sky dominates your line of sight. Immediately, the contrast is clear. Dani's been partying it up while you've been packing your most valuable items, not knowing if you're going to see your home ever again. (3/8)
