Yuzhny is the deepest and arguably largest port in Ukraine. It is the home to the aforementioned ammonia pipeline that is currently being negotiated for inclusion in the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
In 2018, in cooperation with China Harbor Engineering Company, the port was deepened to accommodate larger ships using the Cargill terminal there. By shutting down Yuzhny, Russia is restricting the size and speed with which grain can leave Ukraine. kyivpost.com/post/8433
