Some people really don't like social programs, don't like unions either...and yet, how many people who express that are enjoying their long weekend or any weekend? Thank the unions for that. 1/18
Labour laws may reduce profits for the corp but they also protect the worker from exploitation. 2/18
How many had to use food banks in the last few years, or relied on subsidized housing, or accepted CERB during the pandemic to keep the wolf from the door or saw a doctor for any reason in Canada and didn't have to provide a credit card first? 3/18
That is how social systems work, they help all people not just people with money or well connected. It isn't socialism, it's a social program. Forcing people to beg is not Christian, it's not civil and it's not healthy. 4/18
Civil societies function well by working together- safe, just, fair and healthy expressions of ideas help us all thrive. When some voices are silenced, we all lose. 5/18
If you don't live in society, then you don't need governance, if it's just you on an island, then you govern yourself, but most people live in society and having systems to help make the world better, more harmonious, just and equal are critical; Otherwise you have chaos. 6/18
One ant alone in a pile of dirt won't last long, one bee without a queen won't last long. Living on an island alone you depend on yourself to face nature, to find food, shelter etc. 7/18
In society we depend on others to build the roads we drive on, the buildings we live and work in, and the skilled people who train in various disciplines to serve society-we depend on each other. We don't all have to do everything. 8/18
Some might survive that island but many would not. We've evolved to this point by helping each other-call it socialism if you wish but that's not a negative. Nature uses social systems and thrives because of it. 9/18
A healthy democracy with supportive infrastructure that everyone benefits from is worth striving for and standing up for and not allowing greed to serve the few at the expense of the rest.
Chaos is fearful people demanding the world fit into their set of rules, 10/18
demanding other people live their lives according to someone else's beliefs-how we dress, who we marry, whether we reproduce or not does NOT affect the world in a detrimental way. 11/18
We have laws for the things that do affect society as a whole in detrimental ways, we lose our freedom when we hurt society, ie. murder, theft, etc. Chaos is what leads to fearful people driven to destroy others, 12/18
believing there is NOT enough for all and therefore they must destroy the competition.

Chaos is the result of fearful people not educating themselves beyond what they are taught by others, inherited ignorance is a choice. 13/18
Banning books limits the extent of knowledge in our species, it doesn't prevent us from causing harm. Critical thinking comes from reading books that challenge our beliefs and enhances our life experience. 14/18
Freedom is not only about our individual rights but our responsibilities to the society we live in. Freedom to live on planet earth is a great privilege and if we destroy her and make her uninhabitable for humans, she'll live on but we won't. 15/18
Food for thought I hope. Don't be too quick to spit on the infrastructure and systems that our ancestors built so we could thrive today. Yes there are parts of the system that need to fall, the parts that were exploiting people and the earth, 16/18
they do need to fall but rather than destroy all, wouldn't it be better to take the parts that work and make them better. End the parts that don't work, like racism, misogyny, inequality, unfair wages, religious extremism- 17/18
evolution is hard, but I believe we can do it. If we want to. Long rant, hoping to shine a bit of light on a complex subject. 18/18 end

A little thread of some thoughts-wee rant-I was talking to someone today and they expressed they are overwhelmed with what is going on in the world. 1/8
They felt so much anxiety. First thing in the morning they turn on the news, watch the stock market info, then proceed to get the morning news updates. People are angry, people are afraid, people are breaking the law 2/8
another lost child to worry about, another person died, on and on they expressed their overwhelm. I said I understand, I know these are chaotic times and there is a lot of good happening too. Today is a beautiful day3/8
