On the 23rd of May 2023, @Channel4News broadcast its investigation into the Equality and Human Rights Commission @EHRC, which, in our opinion, has been a mouthpiece for the government for a significant time.
THREAD: 1/13
We were the first LGBT+ organisation to offer evidence of all the concerns - and within the past twelve months, we have made three submissions (one 61 pages long) to the United Nations (GANRHI), calling out collusion, conflict of interest and impartiality of Board members.
2/13
We often have passed this information on to other #LGBTQ orgs who have used this information in various ways, obviously not in our control. We note that @Channel4News made little reference to our allegations in their report but hope one day, that will happen (@jobrabkin).
3/13
We have met with the EHRC several times but have had minimal access to Board members. Our four Directors met Marcial Boo & some staff (we felt at that time productively) in January, & one of our Directors met @EHRCChair (unproductively) last year, just for thirty minutes!
The @Channel4News report suggested that the EHRC Chairwomen @EHRCChair called a trans woman "a bloke in lipstick" in a Board Meeting. If this is true, her comment is deeply discriminatory, transphobic, and unacceptable in 21st-century Britain.
6/13
For years, the EHRC has failed the trans community, including that of healthcare, and in April, incredibly suggested the rollback of trans human rights on the FALSE basis it was helping to protect women. We want to protect women too, but changing the EA will not do that.
7/13
As @NicolaSturgeon stated at the Rainbow Awards only last week, women's rights and #transrights are not in conflict. Both the EA and GRA have worked together very successfully for well over a decade. This is proven by the lack of litigation in this area. (@angelaeagle)
8/13
The EHRC Board have, instead, promoted “gender-critical" views - that of a global movement which originated from the Christian far-right based in the US and with whom the @Conservatives has strong links. We know part of their campaign involves splitting the T from the LGB.
9/13
You can find more about the right-wing campaign to split the T from the LGB here:
Our right-wing national press bombard the public with negative stories about trans ple, specifically trans women, stories often originating from other countries, which are distorted & twisted beyond recognition - cloaking transphobia under the disguise of sex based rights.
11/13
We have no confidence in the independent review of the EHRC, as the KC (Gavin Mansfield) undertaking the review would seem to share views similar to Baroness Falkner. This could be viewed as a conflict of interest. We are making a complaint about this to the EHRC
12/13
Now a little about TransLucent:
Largely because of our expose of the EHRC last year, we won the "LGBT Organisation of the Year Award 2022" at the National Diversity Awards. Our team of twelve are knowledgeable cis & trans people, all unpaid, four of whom are Directors

Excellent research from @stonewalluk
showing bi people are the majority under the #LGBTQ umbrella. Bad news for the odd GC lesbian - diversity wins!
Congratulations @Nancy_M_K !
First off, they seem to be hinging their entire arguments on an 'established legal concept of sex' that they made up in the SSS Guidance - that doesnt appear exist in law.
The number of references to 'legal sex' to prop this up is ludicrous,
2/
especially as 'legal sex' isnt used anywhere else - every area of life that uses 'sex' as a marker it is self defined.
So the EHRC continue to go against the grain on established human rights of self determination.
3/
so much is being achieved by relatively few people, in such a currently hostile environment.
While I have no love for the GICs (which was a shared sentiment, and I dont think the psych from Charing X was particularly happy at the success of the pilots), the NHS overall is
27/
really trying to progess and be inclusive.
Its an uphill fight that means changing core attitudes and archaic systems (one trust is dealing with 750+ different patient record systems, including some still paper based!) - and thats recognised.

I spent the day at the NHS LGBT+ Health Conference yesterday. It was really interesting, and Ive some info, thoughts and observations to share, so heres a 🧵by Claire as I really dont have time to write an article at the moment.
1/?
Context & disclosure - I took part because I sit on the NHS LGBT Sounding Board, and also sat on a panel at the end as part of that. Not that that stops me from being both 1) outspoken and 2) brutally honest.
2/
Ive always imagined these things to be rather stuffy and self congratulatory - wow was I wrong.
1st off, outside of Pride Ive never seen so many trans and NB people in one place, especially in a professional capacity. Id estimate that more than half of the attendees as such.
