Following on from my thread about @GBNEWS winning “most loved News brand” by being the ONLY TV News channel/programme in the category, some guy tried to rebut the thread by posting:

So I thought I’d take a look at the claims in the article😁

1/12

order-order.com/2023/05/26/gb-…
So it begins with the claim that they’re the “most loved News Brand” (already covered that in my previous thread👍🏻)

Note how they provide a link for that claim…

Then they claim that “yesterday” they had bumper ratings - but provide no link for *that* claim🤷‍♀️

2/ Image
They claim GB News “beat” Sky News and BBC News for a few hours in that one day

Now someone looked at these types of claims before but I can’t remember who! (Comment if you have a link!)

Without a link to the data they’re quoting I can’t check that exactly.

3/ Image
But I can look at @BarbAudiences - the people who measure viewing figures.

I can only access top line data, not hour by hour, but that gives a much better idea of how popular a Channel is, than one time slot on one day!

So, how are GB News doing….?

4/
Looking at Last Week’s top 50 shows:

BBC News at Six - all 5 weekday shows featured - averaging 3.2million views

BBC News at Ten - 4 weekday shows - Av 2.6m views

2x BBC Weekend News - 3.3m views

2x ITV Evening News - 2.5m views

Any GB News show…? No!🤷‍♀️

5/
Maybe that week was an anomaly?

So I checked the previous week:

All 5 BBC News at Six - av 3.2m views

BBC News at Ten - 2.8m views

3x BBC Weekend News - 5.5mil views

Any GB News show…? No!🤷‍♀️

But that was the week with the Coronation - so I’ll give it one more week

6/
All 5 BBC News at Six - av 3.3m

BBC News at Ten - 2.7m

2x ITV Evening News - av 2.7m

Any GB News show…? Again, No!🤷‍♀️

So the claim they are “beating” BBC News is quite clearly twaddle

To be fair, in the article they specify it’s Sky and BBC news CHANNELS.

Let’s check👍🏻

7/
@BarbAudiences also publishes Monthly viewing figures for every channel imaginable!

So let’s dive into the April data🤓

8/
Monthly Reach:
BBC News 9.7m
Sky News 7.7m
GB News 2.8m

Average Daily Minutes:
BBC News 1m39s
Sky News 1m08s
GB News 0m36s

To be fair to the Guido article, TalkTV was worse - 1.4m reach and 11s average daily minutes!

Was March any better? (Have a guess!😉)

9/
Monthly Reach:
BBC News 10.6m
Sky News 8.3m
GB News 2.8m
Talk TV 2.0m

Average Daily Minutes:
BBC News 2m00s
Sky News 1m16s
GB News 0m40s
Talk TV 0m13s

So, no. GB News isn’t even in the same ballpark as the Sky and BBC News channels

10/
Thought I’d see what channels ARE in their ballpark based on minutes watched in April:

GREAT! movies 00:34
Food Network 00:35
BLAZE 00:36
GB News 00:36
Sky Sports Golf 00:37
Sky Arts 00:38
W 00:41

(I’ve never even heard of 4 of those channels!)

11/
So, as ever, if you see GB News claiming they are in anyway “more popular” than the BBC or Sky News channels, please call them out!

They just aren’t - not on any metric you look at!

So, the latest #AntiVax bandwagon is that “no *healthy* young people died of covid in Israel”

As ever, given we know many under 50s died from Covid in the rest of the world, does this seem likely?

What do you think?!🙄

Let’s have a look at what’s going on….

🧵1/ ImageImage
I went to the link on @stkirsch’s tweet first (I always feel a bit yucky clicking on those, but I braved it!💪🏼)

And, as is often the case, this claim has come from a Freedom of Information request. This is a classic technique, to get an answer you can misconstrue.

2/
Here is a Google Translate of the FOI that was sent to the Israeli Ministry of Health.

The first three questions were about the average age of covid deaths in the vaxxed vs the unvaxxed.

The unvaxxed died younger - but unsurprisingly the AVers ignored that bit!🙄

Had this shared with me by a gleeful GB News fan🙄

It seemed incredibly unlikely - so I wondered who they asked, what they asked etc.

Went to look at the results of the poll itself….

1/

#GBeebies
#GBNews

uk.news.yahoo.com/gb-news-named-…
So the first thing to jump out was that out of 100 media brands, GB News wasn’t in the top 10 or the top 20 or even the top 50.

I had to scroll to the end of the report - it was number 53

2/

5043860.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/5043860/…
So, OK, maybe all the “news” brands were just really unpopular and GB News was the least unpopular of an unpopular sector?

Well, no, that’s not what’s happening here.

While the brands were all ranked together, they were also split into categories - Social media, News, etc

While we all bask in the beauty that is:

Con -1061
Lab +536
LD +405
Green +241

Can we also take a moment to acknowledge that UKIP lost EVERY Councillor, while Reform UK came away with just 6 (gained 2)🤣

#LocalElections2023

So we can absolutely REJECT any daft Right Wing notion that this result shows the Tory Party just need to swing even further Right, or that it’s because they haven’t “stopped the boats” or that they need to “scrap net zero”.

This result really, really does NOT show that!

2/7
REFUK averaged only 6% in all the places they stood, on a platform of scrapping net zero, fracking, reopening coal mines, more North sea Oil&Gas exploration.

Their culture wars, “stop the boats”, anti-Green ideas are simply not wanted.👍🏻

This is a wonderful juxtaposition👇🏼 Image

What a day for the #BBC yesterday

Lost all their #MOTD presenters after @GaryLineker wouldn’t apologise for criticising the government (read that again!😱)

And while that was obviously the big story, their bad day didn’t end there….

1/7
They announced they’d wouldn’t be airing the final episode of the latest #Attenborough series on TV for fear of a “Right Wing backlash”

WTF?

It will go out on iPlayer where the poor snowflakes won’t see it….

2/7
Then we had the statement about why #FionaBruce felt the need to clarify it was a “one off” when #stanleyjohnson put his wife in hospital😱

Yes, she was quoting one of their friends and not expressing her own opinion, but of all the things to ensure they clarified..?

I don’t know if anyone has seen the pernicious claim flying round social media in the last few days that only “17,000 people in the UK have died from #covid

I’ve yet to see anyone debunk it so I thought I’d do a 🧵

1/
Recently, I saw a number of people making the same, obviously false claim along the lines of “only 10% of covid deaths are actually covid deaths”

I asked for sources repeatedly and eventually got sent a link to an @ONS Freedom of Information request…

2/
ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transp…

The ONS were asked for the numbers of people who had died from covid, but had no other underlying conditions.

The answer came back as ~17,000.

So does that mean the other 150,000 didn’t die of covid??

No - of course it doesn’t.

OK, I'm really struggling with the uproar over @Keir_Starmer saying we need to #MakeBrexitWork.

#Brexit has happened. There is no magic wand we can wave to make it simply vanish in a puff of smoke. We can't just return to 2016 and all live happily ever after...

1/
The path to Rejoining the EU will take 5-20 years (depending on your optimism levels😜) and will necessitate multiple steps bringing us closer to the EU both in terms of standards/trading/economy and also values/attitudes/democracy.

The EU didn't chose Brexit.

2/
Yet the EU has spent 5 years (and counting) expending vast amounts of political energy dealing with Brexit. Every EU country has spent time and money preparing for the changes that Brexit has thrust upon them.

We will need EVERY one of them to allow us to Rejoin
