A short but necessary thread on how to Maximize your LinkedIn profile for success and visibility. LinkedIn works best when you realize that its a tool that most Recruiters, Talent Acquisition and HR Personnel use to find and recruit new potential employees. #BlackTechTwitter /1
You might not be aware but Recruiters have a different view on LinkedIn, this is by design to allow them to parse, narrow and target specific people based on the information provided. For recruiters it starts at this screen. Where they start the search off. /2 ImageImage
Our searches usually begin with Profile Job title, Location and a few different skills. The first opportunity you have to improve your profile's visibility and show up on a Recruiter's search is to put the Job title you have/want in your Headline caption. /3 Image
If you're open to relocating, in addition to selecting the options through LinkedIn's drop down menu Put in the BODY of your profile the words OPEN TO RELOCATING TO and list the cities/countries you're willing to move to and what your employment status is (International only). /4
After the initial search screen, Recruiters are greeted by a LinkedIn screen that gives them a comprehensive view of candidates that most likely fit that search criteria. As you can see the tabs at the top Enables Recruiters to see Who is open to opportunities. /5 Image
This is the next Area of opportunity for you to attract the attention of a Recruiter. On your profile go to your settings and head down to the Job Seeker Preferences, here is where you can let Recruiters know you're open to opportunities increasing your exposure to them. /6 Image
Back to the search Screen. Recruiters are also reliant on what People list as their skills but also what keywords pop up throughout someone's profile. This is why it is important to make sure your Key skills appear frequently the body of your profile. You're more visible to us /7 Image
Finally, pay close attention to your skills you've highlighted on your profile. My advice? Only list things you're proficient enough to use on day 1 on a new job. The more refined your profile is, the more visible it is. /8 Image
TLDR version:
Put the Job you want/have in your Profile Headline.
Select Open To Opportunities in Profile Settings.
Litter your Job descriptions with Relevant key words.
Attach Key Skills to profile. /9

So here are some of the things you should know about Background Checks and what kind of information is pulled up. There are 4 types of Background Checks. Criminal, Credit, Employment, Security Clearance.
Criminal Background checks are to see if you have any CONVICTED felony. That means you were arrested and charged with a crime. Most criminal checks are superficial and usually, they won't see anything that didn’t convert into a full-blown charge.
Credit Check is the one with the most confusion around it. You mostly see these in the financial sector and industries such as banking, insurance, finance, and accounting. Essentially, any job that involves money will involve consideration of an employee’s financial capabilities

When writing reasumes I structure my writing around the breakdown of the acrynom CAR: Challenge, Action, Results

What was the Challenge or problem that needed to be solved? What action did you take? What was the end result? Who benefited?
Challenge: Clearly define the challenge or problem that needed to be addressed. This can be implicitly stated or explicitly mentioned in the resume. For instance, "Faced with declining market share and increased competition."
Action: Describe the specific actions you personally took to tackle the challenge. Take credit for your individual contributions and highlight your proactive approach. For example, "Revamped marketing strategies, conducted market research, and implemented targeted campaigns."

If you're currently working in Retail and you'd like a change in career but you're not sure where to go, I encourage you to check out a career in Tech. How you might go about doing that? Check the thread below for a quick guide for Retail workers to transition into Tech.
Before we actually get started it's important to get an idea of what your value proposition is. A Value Prop is a summary of what you do best and what you bring to the table as a professional. Break your skills down into two categories. Subject Matter Expertise & Transfer Skills.
Subject Matter Expertise (SME) refers to the retail knowledge you've gained over your time in that space. Things like Major players in the industry, trends, customer feedback, and experience. For example, I used to work at Future Shop (Canada's version of Best Buy)
