An #Excel#error in the Austrian social democrats leadership election occurred when aggregating results together into a spreadsheet. #Doskozil was leader from the 3rd to the 5th of June. Following the correction #Babler leads the party. #risk#Excelgate
We have countless examples of spreadsheet errors in political organisation. The mistakes made are elementary and often occur when passing information from system A to system B manually. A basic lack of checking, corroboration and validation has derailed democracy once again
These errors are great examples of how little thought is put into the use of spreadsheets for critical decision making. So much confidence was bestowed on #Excel, no one bothered to check if it was correct. Its a mistake we repeat time and again.
What can be done about this all? Organisations need to be aware of what decisions and information are based on #spreadsheet analysis. They need to understand the risk they expose themselves to with uncontrolled spreadsheet applications. We at EuSpRIG have been working on...
these problems for the last 20 years and we are the World’s only independent, authoritative and comprehensive web based information on the current state of the art in Spreadsheet Risk Management.
Students, Professors, Directors, Managers and Professionals in all disciplines, join us at #EuSpRIG2023 in July in London to discuss these issues and help put an end to the #Spreadsheet#Crisis
The pandemic years have obviously meant that we have been unable to meet as we usually would. In this time we have published some content from authors but in 2023 we are returning to our physical conference. We will be publishing our call for papers soon
What have we been up to in these years? Well we have all had our thinking caps on to improve our academic and industrial standing. We have just completed a submission to Engineering Village for inclusion of our proceedings in all Elsevier academic databases
This will improve our academic visibility and creditability, we will finally be part of mainstream academic literature discoverable through literature search engines. The process takes time but I am excited to see the outcome.
