Just a reminder amid all this unbreathable air that when most states had large amounts of unspent Covid relief funds, the Biden admin told them that instead of investing in upgraded air filtration or n95s to pass out to citizens, to give it to police departments instead.
Folks out here trying to rewrite history telling you it's simply not feasible to have safe air in schools or shared buildings because "where would that much money even come from?"

We literally gave states the money, and Biden told them to spend it on the police instead.
Wow. Some of y’all are up in my mentions just so SURE this is a lie made up to make Biden/the left look bad.

Like even the most basic of googles will provide you a link from almost any news source you can name, from CNN to PBS to even Fox News, all saying the same thing. Screenshot of Google result...Screenshot of Google result...Screenshot of Goggle result...Screenshot of Google result...
And most states did EXACTLY as Biden directed and gave large portions of these funds to police, jails, etc.

**In fact, less than 10% of the American Rescue Plan funds went to anything related to public health.**

So just how much went to cops? Well…

themarshallproject.org/2022/09/07/how…
“The majority of all current ARPA obligations, $52.6 billion, were categorized as ‘Revenue Replacement.’ […] Nearly half of this $52.6 billion went to projects that mentioned police, law enforcement, courts, jails and prisons, The Marshall Project found.”

But that’s not all…
The piece goes on to explain that was just the $ that was clearly labeled as specifically going to law enforcement/jails/etc, but that much of the money wasn’t labeled for ANYTHING or was labeled for broad slush funds that most likely included law enforcement within them. Screenshot reads: It’s cha...
The article also gives detailed info on just HOW the $ given to law enforcement was spent. They have graphics & examples throughout the piece that show specific purchases made by specific locales - things like armored vehicles, body scanners, “premium pay” & hiring bonuses, etc Screenshot from the article...A screenshot of an example ...A screenshot of an example ...A screenshot of an example ...
Don’t miss that last bit here, that “Colorado’s Department of Corrections allocated $1.3 million in “Private Prison Retention Bonuses” to employees who work at the private CoreCivic facility.”

They spent 1.3 MILLION in PUBLIC funds on bonuses for employees of PRIVATE company. A screenshot from the artic...
The piece ends with this tidbit where a county debated using 25 MILLION in PUBLIC funds to transfer incarcerated ppl 8 hrs away to a PRIVATE prison. County officials testified that they desperately needed those funds for other important things & none supported the plan. And yet? Screenshot from the article...
“Despite the misgivings and criticism, the commission unanimously approved the spending.”

Of course they did. 😒
The piece is more than worth the read & includes way more details and examples than the ones I included here. But the TL/DR is that less than 10% of these federal Covid relief funds went to anything public health related & LOTS went to law enforcement.

themarshallproject.org/2022/09/07/how…
And Biden not only *allowed* it, he specially told them to do it. He WANTED them to do it. In fact, he specifically pointed to using these Covid relief funds for police as a win in his State of the Union address that year, while directly criticizing the #DefundThePolice movement. A screenshot from the same ...
This is who Biden is.

No, that’s not “fake news” or misinformation designed to make him look bad.

He has ALWAYS been extremely pro-law enforcement. Anyone who took so much as 5 minutes to look at his voting record new that BEFORE he was elected President. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I would think I’ve give enough receipts here that simply calling me a liar or a right wing operative is just lazy at this point. Facts are facts, and if you don’t like how this makes Biden look to voters? Seems like you have questions about the strength of his candidacy then. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Y’ALL. The folks sometimes referred to as “blue MAGA” are certainly making themselves known today, & they’re proving that when it comes to trolling they’re virtually indistinguishable from the far right in terms of their level of vitriol, aggression, and unhinged behavior. Yikes.
I can’t help myself though in sharing a laugh at the expense of the individual who tweeted THIS screed at someone in my replies, & then approximately 60 secs later (with over a dozen appearances in my notifications in the last hr)… proceeded to do that exact thing to me. 🤣 Screenshot of a tweet from ...Twitter screenshot showing ...
It’s truly WILD to me how hard people will cape for Joe Biden against ANY sort of criticism.

“Blue MAGA” really is a fitting description honestly. It’s the exact same cult like “dear leader” behavior and “it’s only bad when the other team does it” beliefs.

It’s bewildering.

Those of us who learned to actually ADAPT to life with Covid are already so much better prepared for the next decade of the climate crisis. The folks who said “how long can you reasonably expect us to keep masking” have set themselves up for a MUCH harder time adapting now.
So many of y’all have spent the last year or two reinforcing this idea over and over in your brain that masks are really hard to live with and that they severely limit your quality of life. You’ve equated mask wearing with “lockdowns.”
You’ve created a narrative that masks ruin any ability to socialize properly, that wearing a mask makes it basically impossible to gain any of the usual benefits of participating in activities.

You’ve created a narrative that masks ruin childhoods and stunt education.

In hindsight, it was very dumb to watch both Shiny Happy People & the Hillsong documentary the same week I had a brutal 4 1/2hr long appointment w/ a neuropsych extensively reliving past traumas in detail for their tests.

I’m a mess.

Could really use some love & light today.
I still have ANOTHER 4hr appointment to do next week (and that one has to be in person since there are some physical tests I need to do as well.)

This process has been BRUTAL, but I’m just grateful to finally be see after spending almost a YEAR on waitlists.
And *hopefully,* we’ll come out the other side of this with the extremely specialized info necessary to finally find some treatment options to regain a lot of function and quality of life.

That’s the goal that makes all the hard work worth it. I’d do ANYTHING at this point.

This report says EXACTLY what so many of us were criticized for saying: that not only do kids cause the overwhelming majority of transmission, but specifically that *SCHOOLS* cause the majority of transmission. The proof is when they chart the timeline…
cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/more-…
“Once US schools reopened in fall 2020, children contributed more to inferred within-household transmission when they were in school, and less during summer and winter breaks, a pattern consistent for 2 consecutive school years."
Also look at the breakdowns from this section, I’ll take them one by one:

It’s my very first pride since coming out, something I’ve dreamed about experiencing for years. No more sad longing from the sidelines, wishing that could be me. I found my brave & I stopped hiding, so my first pride should be a really special and joyous time.

And yet…
As much as I knew that coming out would mean losing my sense of belonging in certain communities and spaces that won’t accept me for who I am, I wasn’t expecting to feel equally rejected by queer communities and spaces for being disabled.

But here we are. 😕
Your 1st Pride should be special - a celebration of the bravery it took to get there, & a coming home party that welcomes you into the larger queer community with a sense of belonging you were always denied elsewhere.

But when pride is inaccessible, none of that is possible.

Eugenics has been successfully mainstreamed. #NeverAgain is right now.
So many of y'all who are comfortably ignoring this because it doesn't matter to you are missing that those repeat Covid infections will give you the conditions that MAKE you part of the population you've deemed expendable.

Your ableism will circle back to bite you in the ass.
You're also missing that those 100k-250k he's talking about are *official* covid deaths - it does NOT include the heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms, etc that Covid causes later. And those deaths are NOT so centralized within so-called "vulnerable populations."

There’s a reason that the White House still requires testing and upgraded ventilation to get anywhere near the President. There’s a reason economic/financial outlets like Bloomberg are seemingly the only ones still truly reporting on Covid. There is a reason #DavosSafe is a thing
The wealthy elite know that one of the BIGGEST competitive advantages they can give themselves their children going into the next century is not having been exposed to repeat Covid infections. It will confer so many intersecting layers of privilege that you can’t put a price on.
So to my fellow Covid conscious folks who are struggling under the weight of how hard everything is right now: try to remember, you’re essentially playing the long game. For all we’re losing out on now, our kids will thank us for it later. But more than that…
