🧵: Lawsuits, deaths and other problems with Armor Correctional were publicized by local media across the country prior to Jacksonville finalizing either of its contracts with the for-profit company.
For the last 4 months, every city official connected to the approval of the contract (and former Jaguars lineman Tony Boselli, who represented Armor as a lobbyist) has failed to answer questions about the jail outsourcing its medical care when contacted by phone, email or text.
Since Duval became involved with Armor, the company lost at least 11 contracts because of a lack of accountability or inadequate care provided by the company’s employees.
At least 7 of those dropped contracts were in Florida counties.
This story includes declarations filed in federal court written by some of those Florida sheriffs about why they dropped their Armor contracts.
The state would only say that the certification was revoked because the jail was not compliant with a rule to check on certain inmates every 30 minutes.
The investigation was sparked by an inmate death.
The state official declined to provide details on that death but we know an inmate died by suicide on April 26. We know next to nothing about the person who died.
I found out through a source on the 27th and got a news release after I inquired.
- 53% of Tarrant County's beds are available
- In the past 24 hours 65 people suspected to have #COVID19 have been admitted to the hospital.
- 13 people in ICU
The county has also put transmission type statistics back on the website.
- The majority are coming from community spread. Of those, 45% are from unknown sources.
- Most testing is being done in commercial or hospital labs.
- 40% of positive cases are people ages 45 to 64.
The majority of cases are in the 45 to 64 age group, but 64% of the deaths are in the 65+ age group.
Of the deaths:
- 55% of cases were contracted from an unknown source
- 18% were contracted from community spread, but the source was known
- 27% have been undetermined

Mayor Betsy Price, interim chief Ed Kraus and City Manager David Cook will speak.
Mayor Price: We are all heartbroken today. Atiatiana was an amazing, smart woman who was unjustly taken from her family ... I cannot imagine anything worse and I am so sorry ... there is nothing that can justify what happened #AtatianaJefferson
Price apologizes to James Smith, who called non-emergency. She apologizes to #AtatianaJefferson's young nephew who was in the room when she was killed.
