Calgary antifascism/antiracism activists have a long history of standing with & for our Muslim siblings. We stood arm in arm to defeat white supremacists battling M103 in 2017. Islamophobia is hate. Hate is not welcome here.

Many of us have forged beautiful & lasting relationships that crisscross queer & Muslim identities as a result.

We stand by & for each other. Our bonds of mutual respect are strong.

When we learned of the protest at city hall, organized by a fringe Muslim group headed by a well known shit disturber, alarm bells went off across our communities.

We have established solidarity. We've had many conversations about our shared concerns.

We share a concern that some will resort to anti-Muslim rhetoric to fight back. We share a concern that Muslims in general will be broad-brush painted as haters of our queer community. We share a concern that Muslims will be weaponized by WS unwittingly.

We are aware that certain UCP operatives used 2SLGBTQ+ issues as a wedge within the Muslim community. Promises were made but not kept. The community feels betrayed but they're not sure who to blame.

The queer community is the target du jour for hate.

We've been advised that this fringe group of haters need to see that there's huge opposition to their anti-LGBTQ2S rhetoric.

They need to see that Muslims & queers (& queer Muslims!) do & will once again stand together.

In solidarity an official Call to Action will be released tonight

I'll hopefully be sleeping (ha) but I want you to know how important it is for as many of us as possible to show up at City Hall tomorrow around 6. Not in fear & hatred but with love & respect

... Love & respect for ourselves & for each other. Affirming faith groups will be there. Muslims seeking info/education will be there. Folks wanting to express queer joy will be there.

I hope you will be too.
