A player who can operate in numerous positions providing cover across multiple positions is what McCann has signed, similar to a couple of signings now, certainly not a coincidence.
Positions
Coming through the ranks at Newcastle he operated mostly as a midfielder and by the looks of the multiple posts and quotes Iโve seen McCann sees him primarily as a midfielder.
However throughout the season at Gateshead he slotted into CB and performed the position toโฆ twitter.com/i/web/status/1โฆ
When Williamson started the season operating a 4 back formation Bailey would often play in the midfield and to a very good standard. However when Williamson eased away from the playing and put most of his time into coaching he changed to a 3/5 back - and thatโs where he operatedโฆ twitter.com/i/web/status/1โฆ
Aerial Threat
He scored five headers last season and thatโs not down to his height as heโs only 5ft 10 - itโs down to his pure aggression and determination to make the ball his, a great trait of his.
Heโs definitely a massive threat and a great asset in both boxes. I have no doubt he will add to the goals next season and in a season which is going to be decided by little things, I think this is a very smart signing.
Workrate
Itโs becoming a common theme me mentioning attitude and work rates in a #DRFC signing thread - and thatโs because the signings that Grant is making are all extremely hard working and doing the hard yards to them is common.
I think it says a lot about a player technically when they will happily slot into whatever position but more attitude wise when they do it to benefit the team. Williamson system change wouldnโt have worked so well if Bailey wasnโt happy to play CB/WB but he did and played to anโฆ twitter.com/i/web/status/1โฆ
Technical Side
Iโve mentioned his aggressive approach, aerial ability and is happy to play in multiple positions but havenโt mentioned his ability on the ball.
As you can see from the photo below how comfortable he is on the ball, the last five games of the season - had at-least 38 successful passes per game, so for all his off the ball traits, his ability on the ball certainly caught my eye
Recoveries
His recoveries per game is extremely impressive - he reads the game so so well and perhaps goes unnoticed because of all the other impressive traits he possesses. However his understanding of the game and positions he takes up to be in the best position to win theโฆ twitter.com/i/web/status/1โฆ
As you can see from the photo below the recoveries are very rarely in the oppositions half and majority of the time in his own half, showing the significance he has to his defensive side of the game.
Overall
One of my favourite signings of the window, he embodies everythint Grant McCann asks for, and this window so far every player McCann has brought in - is a McCann player so heโs been backed and it will be shown on the pitch next season.

The experienced CB who has just suffered relegation with Rochdale is looking for a new club and i think #YCFC would welcome his arrival, heโs a good no nonsense defender and has experience across L1 and L2.
Notts County a look into what else they need this window to become genuine title contenders (๐งต) #ncfc#nottscounty
First of all, the system Luke Williams played last season and tactical approach he took is probably the most in depth tactical approach Iโve ever seen in the National League.
Williams demands his goalkeeper to be comfortable and confident on the ball, itโs the way he plays - playing out from the back was almost unheard of at NL level but it was a demand Williams had.
An in depth thread of Burton Albion and 11 players I think they should sign. They need a big summer and below is how I think they could. (๐งต) #bafc#Burton
Burton Albion currently only have eight players under contract although they have offered new deals to a further eight players.
So with none of them currently confirmed and 3/8 players playing the same/similar position, I am going to go through 11 possible signings I think would suit Burton Albion and help them kick on next season.
A thread on #DRFC early start to the window and what I feel is needed to return to League One. (๐งต)
After relegation to L2 in 2022 they had another very poor season last year finishing 18th and not ever putting a run of games together.
I think they big thing I struggled to see was what direction the club was heading in and what sort of team they was. They wasnโt necessarily a possession based team and they lacked the quality to be a counter attacking team, so I did struggle to see what way the club was going.
A very good young goalkeeper who I think needs to play in a system that suits him, and I think what Evatt demands of his goalkeeper would bring the best out of Savin.
Now released by #MUFC and looking to shine elsewhere itโs another player I believe fits Evatts system well, he is comfortable on the ball and can also carry out of defence
A thread on 15 signings I feel would be a good fit for Morecambe - with only six players currently at the club, I did 15 more potential signings - in my opinion my best thread(๐งต) #morecambe#mfc#shrimps
After speaking and taking a deeper dive into Morecambe FC and seeing that Morecambe currently only have six players registered for the upcoming season means theyโll need at-least 15 signings in the next couple of months.

I did a smaller thread with five players and Iโm going to add a further 15 players who I think Morecambe could/should sign - itโs a mixture of experience and youth but I canโt help but feel this isnโt a healthy way of running a club
