/ I just lost all my #Ordinals. ALL of them. Not a scam or theft. A technical mishap. Here's what happened:
/ A few weeks ago, I inscribed some #cursed ordinals, specifically @CursedBTCPunks. Unfortunately, they never appeared in my Xverse Wallet, so yesterday I joined their Discord in an attempt to find answers about my cursed inscriptions.
/ I read that in order to view my cursed inscriptions, I would need to import my @xverseApp wallet into @SparrowWallet. So that is what I did...
/ I downloaded Sparrow Wallet to my MacBook, and imported my seed phrase from Xverse Wallet. Everything was working fine. I could see my Bitcoin and I could view my transaction history in Sparrow.
/ Here is where I made a detrimental mistake. DO NOT REPEAT THIS!!!!!
/ Simply put, I sent Bitcoin from Sparrow wallet to Coinbase. Yes, that is my HUGE mistake.
/ The transaction went through smoothly. My Bitcoin arrived in Coinbase. But then I checked my Xverse wallet. My Ordinals completely vanished ☠️
/ I looked at each Xverse account associated with my seed phrase, and each one was wiped completely. I'm most saddened to say goodbye to these guys: @Unordinals @BitcoinFrogs ImageImage
/ Upon checking Ord.io, my Ordinals are still tied to my taproot addresses. But even after importing my Xverse Wallet into Hiro and others, nothing shows up.
/ Afraid that I've permanently lost my Ordinals. I've learned that pain tends to be the best teacher in #crypto. I'm putting this information out to hopefully prevent anyone else from making the same mistake as me.
/ So, how come my Ordinals disappeared completely? It surely can't be from simply sending Bitcoin.
/ It's because of how #Ordinals are tied to #Bitcoin transactions. Ordinals are attached to specific transaction outputs known as UTXOs. When Bitcoin is sent, it's these UTXOs that are actually sent.
/ When I transferred Bitcoin from Sparrow to Coinbase, I didn't just send Bitcoin, I also unknowingly sent the UTXOs that my Ordinals were attached to.
/ Unfortunately, Coinbase does not support #Ordinals, and this led to my Ordinals being lost in transit.
/ If you're shifting wallets or sending Bitcoin or Ordinals, double, triple check everything. Understand the implications. Reach out for help when unsure. This is an unforgiving space where errors can be costly.
/ Let my mess-up be a reminder of the hidden complexities in handling Ordinals. Please stick to the best wallets including @xverseApp, @hirowallet, and @unisat_wallet unless you know exactly what you are doing.
/ Keep your Ordinals safe 🙏. And if anyone has tips for possibly recovering my lost Ordinals, please reach out. This loss isn't easy, but we can at least learn from it.
/ In the meantime, I'll continue to explore every possible avenue for recovery and keep you all updated.
/ Please Like and Retweet to share this message with the #Bitcoin and #Ordinals community. Until next time 🫡
